Summit Goliath is pretty roomy. That's why I've been using.

That's why I want something smaller

I have hunted out of an API for the last 12 years.
I am only 5'8 170, and it's fine for me. My buddy is like 6'3" and was pushing 400. He will only climb in a Summit. He would not fit into my API if you greezed him up!

yeah, mine is pretty small. That's one of the things I like about it, but I am the world's tallest midget.

I've got an extra Grand Ole Man I'll trade for your Goliath, if you're interested..

It's not my stand to trade

I got a few for sale. I don't remember the model but a big summit stand. I used it like three times. Also have two ol man stands. I'd sell cheap

API
Chains far superior to cable in grip, adjustment and molding to odd shapes in trees such as buldges, knots and vines.
Teeth are superior. The bottom will not slide. No need to tie together.
Nesting/carrying. I think but do not know that the API is going to nest easier with fewer steps than the Plummit. Mine nests with no straps.
Seat. API looks more comfortable-I cannot confirm that.
Plummit: Weight. That's it's only advantage. I would remove that foot rest from the API anyway. In the end, they may be very close in total weight.
Caveat: That API is a new design with arms that come inward at the chains. I have zero experience with that design and have no idea why they did that.

quote:IIRC, with the API, the bottom goes in the top when you are packing it out. I am too lazy to be messing around with ropes. It is a fairly loud stand to begin with
And I keep my top and bottom tied together with a piece of rope anyway
I had a buddy's dad who fell out of climber a while back. He was actually hanging upside down for 2 hours before my buddy found him. They had to go get a ladder, and put it in the bed of the truck to unhook him. No broken bones or anything on the guy. They left the stand hanging in the tree and he hasn't ever been up a tree since then

The chains are definitely something that needs to be taken care of. I haven't ever seen the wire ropes on a Summit or Ol' Man break. I got 10 years on my API chain right now, but I spray it with WD40 before deerslaying time, and once after. It still has surface rust on it, and a fair amount of the rubber is coming off it it
The API and Summmit stands are some of the heaviest things I have used. Summit is the quieter of the two. I always borrowed an Ol' Man when I had to go further than a quarter mile

I have only changed my chains once. I did switch to the larger clear tubing you get from a home store. Huge improvement.
I guess I don't get the noise comment. My stand is very very quiet. As for weight, the only climber lighter than mine is a Lone Wolf. I own one. It scares me to death.

That chain was always clinking around on me, and I dont remember what was louder when packing it
Those Ol Mans from a while back were so easy to fold up, and much lighter than what I was using. They were the ones with just the webbed seat and Aluminum. Kind of like the multi-vision now. I had a couple of buddies buy it just for that fact.

There were lots of Ole Mans at my first lease. The guys all complained about skinny trees. I never liked the folding arm concept.
On my API, I fold the chains back inward, and stuff extra clothing in there. No noise.
