Is nobody going to call you out? If you don't know shite about bow hunting (sounds like you don't), why not get an average bow to see if you even like it?
Dumb arse post.
If the guy has the cash, why isn't it ok to shoot one of the nicer models? He can always adjust to it since he has no habits, obviously.
But what he does need is some bargaining skills and or patience to shop around....

What's a good set up (new/used) for $500?
Thinking hard about getting into bow hunting due to a difficult work schedule during rifle season.
A number of people have recommended Bear, looking for reliable, accurate, and enough power to get the job done. Not looking for all the frills and gadgets.

The earlier post about the QAD ultra is dead on.

Nope, wanted a bow for years, & I went without. I bought a Remington 700 30-06 & 12 gauge extreme last off season. Bow & new pistol this year. No substitute for nice shite, when I shot @ the oilmans skeet shoot w my 870 it was country come to town. Used to talk massive shite about guys who dropped 1500 on a shotgun. Then I shot one & bought one. Done & done. I knew what rifle & shotgun I wanted, clueless when it comes to bows. Got some great info. Thanks

How bout arrows and all extra's? I need some shite to practice with. I work in s. tx & have a lot of time to dick off. I've never really shot a bow, so I guess I have 5 or 6 months to get ready.
Take your time. all the big players top bows are off the chain. shoot them all and then pick. Since you are new at the game look at ones that have at least 7" brace height, straight or deflex riser, 32" or greater axle to axle.
then just shoot them and see which one you think feels and shoots the best.
You probably want to get one that has 75% letoff and a solid wall. Look at their draw force curve for that. google bow tests. there is a ton of info out there.
and you don't have to get the top bow for it to be deadly. anything over 300 fps will give you good performance and that is on the low end of the spectrum as for as today's bows are concerned. I have won many a tournament and killed lots of deer with bows that shot 275ish.
Good luck with the search it is half the fun.
oh yeah. don't hesitate buying a used one. just make sure the draw length is right for you and the limbs and cams aren't twisted are canted.

I would suggest a 1963 Fred Bear Grizzly, Type I angled dogleg, 50#, with Shur-Hit sight

You can get a very nice bow for under $1000
That being said, I shoot a Mathews z7. It's VERY nice

I have a 12-14 yr old Mathews Ultra Max that has killed a shitpile of deer. I think I paid $1000 for a setup. I'd been using my dad's hand-me-down rigs since I was 12. If mine explodes tomorrow I'll go shoot the newest hoyts, Matthews, and bears and pick from them. If you are just starting out, just know the bow setup will factor in 0.01% of your hunting success.

Mathews chill, McKinney Ruston. Shooting 2in groups @ 20. Can't wait to hear that flesh noise. Smack. Thanks for the info. Big big help! A cold beer & sore shoulder on the agenda
