Worst case i've ever had. i think the guy who said to use a rag to wipe off is a damn liar. i am almost 100% positive what i did instead was spread the oil all over my body because the way it showed up sure looks like the way i scrubbed myself off in the shower.

short story i got a little aggressive on some bushwaking in shorts & a tshirt when i should have not been an idiot and put on long sleeves and long pants.

been to the clinic and got my oral steroids, using calamine and hydrocortisone on it and taking benedryl.

i look like the elephant man. big ugly blooms of poison ivy wet puss all over my body. luckily i'm at work with a dress shirt on so nobody can see but i'm starting on my second week of hell and i'm ready for this shite to be over.

anything else i can do to make this go away sooner?

Systemic Poison Ivy Reaction - Severe Allergic reaction. Once the urushiol goes through the top layer of the skin, it bonds with a type of white blood cell called Langerhan's cells, and from there can spread throughout the body. Same thing goes for breathing in smoke, if you were burning brush. Once in the lungs it can get into the bloodstream.

You probably need a high dose steroid injection. Go home and let that crap air out.

Serious question. I have a friend with some nice azaleas. Only problem. shite ton of poison ivy in them. I understand pulling it out. The problem is. They cover an area that’s 20x20. No good way to get in the center. Anything to spray to just kill the ivy?

thanks all. i'll go back to clinic & ask for a shot. she told me she thought the oral steroid would be more effective and gave me a 3 week supply instead of a shot.

go get the shot, it will knock it out quicker than playing around with lotions.

I scratch it till it bleeds then put either gas or Clorox on it. burns like a mofo but it kills it.

i took it upon myself to get rid of 2 very ugly-looking trees near my fence which is covered with ivy.

what i didn't realize is when i finished cutting the trees and they didn't fall it was because of huge masses of vines up high..some of it being poison ivy.

the tree was literally being held up by the mass of vines so i had to get int there and shake it and use a pole saw to cut some of the vines above until it fell.

so yeah, i was mixed up with vines (tripping me on top of everything else) just to get these 2 trees down and was getting so angry i didnt give a crap until they were on the ground and i had pulled the damn vines about 50 feet in the other direction. damn vines were like 100 feet long and fought me the whole way because they were so mixed up in all my other vegetation.

pro tip: the vines were actually what made the tress look so trashy in the first place but they were unsalvageable because the vines had choked them out and ruined their growth.

in any case, anyone on here wanna $100 to come haul away a gigantic brush pile loaded with poison ivy?

Go get a shot of Solu-Medrol. You will start feeling better within hours.

In the future, if you know you have been exposed, take a bath with half a cup of Clorox. I am not sure of the mechanism, but in my personal experience it is very effective. Do not forget to dunk your head and face.

if you went to the doctor and they didn't give you a shot, you must not have it that bad.
I do'nt know what was the point of going to the doctor if you weren't going to get a shot.

So go get a shot, and go get some Ivarest or Technu or something different like Domeboro. Seems like some work better than others for different people.
Calamine/Hydrocortisone will do absolutely nothing for serious poison ivy. That's like putting neosporin on a gunshot wound.

I don't know of a spray but what I do when vines are entangled in an azalea is find a vine and cut it. Then take the end attached to the roots and stick it in a bottle of strong roundup solution. If the weather has been dry then most vines will suck a noticeable amount of the solution within a few hours. Keep doing this until you don't see anymore live vines. Works great for honeysuckle as well. Doesn't work so good on grape vine as they tend to leak fluid instead of absorb it.

There is a product called ivy dry that speeds the process up. Other than that, you are screwed.
