Just remember it's pretty easy to rip the lure out of their lips if the boat is moving. We almost come to a stop anymore when cranking them in.

You'll also know if you're trolling too slow if they're completely swallowing the lure. It's a real pain since they have such small mouths.

Shinners deep.

I used to throw a white Marlboro jig (which is a hair jig) on a beatle spin rig and kill them. Look for deep spots right off brush piles. Just like bread but deeper

so true.

Going to have to disagree here. Much rather then choking it than lipping them. Lose too many that way.

I'll have to check out the Arkies. Thanks for the tip.

Regarding time of day. Sunday morning we hit the lake about 6:00 (delayed by a roofing nail). The bass were lethargic and by 7:30 we switched to trolling with very little success. About 9ish, it was game on and we finally had to quit due to the amount we still needed to clean.

I went out in the afternoons the first week of July when it was 90*+ and had no problem catching them. It seems to me they don't like to wake up early.

I've never lived north of Alexandria, and I've always called them perch or white perch. So do just about everyone I know. Very few call em Sac-a-lait, and damn near no one I've spoken to call them crappie. Although, when they are called either of the three I do not correct them, because neither of the three names are wrong.

Pulling crankbaits behind my the boat. Usually 100' of line on medium action rods that can handle the drag of a crankbait. Usually 2-3 rods. Running the boat around 1.5-2mph.

I use a small outboard to do it, but have used a trolling motor in the past. Some boats the main outboard will never idle low enough to get down to the speed you want.

Drill a hole in a 5 gallon bucket or two, tie about 15 feet behind the boat and that will slow it down

Oh yeah I know. Just more crap to get tangled behind the boat with a bunch of lines with multiple treble hooks already in the water. But for people without another option, it'll definitely work.

buying two of these rod holders for $2.99 apiece. Going to use my bass rods to troll some crank baits. I figure it's a cheap way to figure out of this works where I'm going. I might get some better holders if i catch.

This time of year I get to the lake about 30 minutes before dark and find a dropoff with brush and setup on the top of the dropoff. I have a couple of LED floodlights that I hook to an inverter and hang over the water. After that it's just bait up with shiners and set out a few poles at different depths until you find where the fish like it the best.

Those should work fine for a few trips. The metal eventually fatigues though after repeated use and be sure to clamp it down very tight because sooner or later a big catfish will latch onto one of your crankbaits and if your rodholder isnt secure you'll lose your rod.
