Beginning to look for reputable breeders in Louisiana. I’ve never gone through a breeder for any dog that I've ever had, so any notable or notorious ones would be helpful to know.

Not trying to be a smart aleck but why limit yourself to Louisiana? Expand your search into Texas and open up a ton more options. Will you be hunting the dog or just want one for a pet?

If you are looking for a hunting dog, a few litters a year show up on facebook group "Louisiana Upland Dogs" there are very few kennels breeding hunting shorthairs in Louisiana, but there are some kennels breeding family pets.
Shorthairs have different traits, you need to know what type of shorthair you want then you can look for breeding that will give you the best chance of getting those traits.

My gf's GSP acts like a crack head when you let her out. Most hyper dog I've ever seen

I looked at gsp in my search for a versatile dog. I wound up going with a pudelpointer from a breeder in OH. Better fit for me with my family. He's all balls in the field and turns it off at home. He is started upland, started duck, started blood tracking and does all of these things pretty well for not having laser focused training on one particular skill. They don't shed and that's awesome since I also have a golden retriever.

Good family pet?
I only get out to hunt maybe once or twice a year, so not a priority. Have Brit already. our older big dog is probably not going to make it too much longer(he is 15). We are looking for something in 40-60lb range with short hair and I have been drawn to the EP's. Have 3/4 acre fenced yard, so plenty of space to play with other dog

I think an EP is less likely to be a good family pet than then other pointing breeds, The ones I have been around tended to be more kennel dogs than family pets, they tend to be less affectionate and more about the business of bird hunting...

I have a black lab. My gf has a female GSP that's 8. She's only about 50lbs. No fat at all. My dog makes her look tiny

I have a 8 month old GSP. Got him back from 2 month OB training last month. He's well behaved but acts like a puppy at times, as he should. Loves playing fetch, great family dog. Starting retrieval training this weekend. actually.
He is starting to hump everything, though. Don't know what we'll do about that yet, ha.

The going rate is $1500. As with anything there are better folks to deal with than others. I did a lot of research and am happy with my dog and the breeder. I'll get another one when my golden gets old and my wife forgets what it's like to have a puppy around.

Just make sure you do your research on the breeder. Wick is a good resource here on the OB. My breeder was out of Shreveport and does show dogs, but hers hunt too.
Mine stays in the house and is a damn good dog. Very protective of the wife when I’m gone for work. But..... he’s an a-hole.
Mine is pretty laid back for a GSP, but I run him 2-3 miles a few days a week and he generally ends up playing with a few buddies on the weekend. For the record, after the runs it’s water then he is grabbing something to throw. Just know what you are getting into.
Very loyal, very “Velcro” type dogs and almost too intelligent. I have to remind that fricker who is in charge every now and then.
Have a buddy who got one out of Texas I think recently and he wasn’t quite finished. Basically the guy said he would hunt, but prolly not be a field trial champ. Per my buddy he is a beast in the field.

EP have a one track mind... birds.... frick everything else.... including the boss.....great at what they do....hard for any pointing breed to one up them in a trial....but.... they be mobile alabama leprechaun chasing crazy......
and this coming from someone who likes crazy bird dawgs more that 99% of the people I have met.... but.. the FT win I am most proud of was when an EP was 2nd to my GSP.......

My EP (RIP) was from a full-blood mom and a springer spaniel dad. Best damn family pet ever.
My GSP runs a couple miles a day. Smart, loyal and beautiful and grateful. She conveys thanks for a special treat. She likes her routine and settles calmly at night. Another winner.
