Garage door not opening

My garage door all of the sudden stopped opening. All the other electronic components on it work, because I can still turn the lights on and the key pad button still lights up. Anyone have experience with this? FYI: It's a Genie garage opener.

Does the motor itself turn or make any noises?

Pull the handle to make sure it is on the track.
If you have teenagers one of them probably grabbed the handle and knocked it out of line.

It does not. That's what make me think maybe the transmitter for the base went out. Or maybe just needs to be reprogrammed.

You should be able to do this yourself.

This is more likely, if it is not off the track as previously mentioned.

Have you verified the following:
1. The motor still works? Do you have a way of disconnecting the linkage and running the motor?
2. Check another remote?
3. Is there a way to operate it from the motor itself so you don't have to rely on RF signals? Or is there a hardwired button?
4. Does the light flash or any other indication of issue?

First thing to do is manually remove the door from the motor to get the motor working.
Most motors have a switch on them if you can’t get the transmitter to work. Hit that switch to see if the motor will Work manually.
Eta: this doesn’t normally happen with your door shut but I bet what happened was someone knocked the door sensors out of line or put something in their way. The door sensors are a switch and if they aren’t lined up it won’t open.

If it's one of the older models they were the best one made. The motherboard may need to be replaced. This happened to mine.

I had the same issue not too long ago. My 7 year old boy some how knocked one of the sensors out of alignment. Make sure the sensors at the bottom of the door are still lined up properly.

There are sensosrs to make sure no one is under the door though I don’t think this would affect the opening just closing could be out of alignment
There is a limit switch to stop the door at full open could be stuck.
There is a circuit breaker on the motor to keep it from burning up in the event the door gets stuck. Could be tripped.

If it does nothing at all when you use a hardwired switch, the motherboard is likely bad.
If it makes any attempt at motion or lights flash, its probably the sensors. then motor fuse if it has one. then limit switch may be bad. Motor itself is rarely a problem.

Check the Sensors at bottom of tracks near the ground on both sides - one of them prob got knocked and isn’t pointing directly at the other - adjust and try again

Here a few items to check.
1. power/electricity
2. batteries in remote good?
3. are you at the right house?
