I wasn’t aware he was a biologist. I apologize. Did he come from the UGA or A&M tree?

This is probably a smartass response, but everyone that has a degree in "biology" is not a "biologist".

But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t understand CWD. He's a vet, and there are similar diseases in cattle and other animals.

Again, why purchase deer to turn loose on a piece of ground that doesn’t have a high fence and isn’t on an island. The deer will literally walk off the tract within hours.
Because it’s a bidness, baw, this deer whacking bidness, to sell scent free clothes and mud tires and F250s and mini tractors and sniper scopes and shite to baws.

I think he went to LSU. His bio is probably all over the internet. He is pretty passionate about animals and diseases like this.

Mad Cow is same or similar to cwd.
Doubt it will ever be eradicated in our lifetime.

Because some people wanted the bucks with droptine genetics. Of course your friend wouldn't admit to being part of the cwd issue. WQ isn't the only big $$$ property in the area. But they are the one at the epicenter of the cwd epidemic. Those other clubs don't shoot many does either, so your friend needs to come up with a better explaination.

You have a link stating that cwd originated on winter quarters?

Only that since 2022, over 40 deer tested positive in tensas parish with nearly 50%of them came from WQ alone. Tensas has more positive cases than any other parish, and most of those are on WQ properties.

WQ is the epicenter of the outbreak . Why? All those other buy-in high $$$$ Clubs along the MS river haven't had that many cases on their properties? Everyone knows where it begin. Their biologist quit them. I would to if I was him. This won't look great on a resume.

Once again, I am asking for a link. Not a repeated rumor

No news source I’ve seen nor LDWF have specifically identified WQ as the initial case or source of the outbreak. So what’s your question?

Yes, it says AROUND. Did not say it originated on. I understand comprehension sucks around here, but my question clearly asked for a link stating that cwd originated on winter quarters.

Per EF Hutton, looks like ol' Glen at Buck Fever is the man with the inside info.

I am just praying I dont have to go out and hunt deer in the future. Scouting, moving, hunting the wind, worrying about scent, climbing trees, man that sucks. I like my box stand and staring at a corn pile.

Just trying to help you figure out where the “rumor” started. There are more CWD threads if you search. For WQ, maybe it’s shitty luck, maybe it’s self inflicted.

Im certain from this point fwd we can look forward to LDWF’s mgt of the issue and the additional rules and regs that will result. Have a good afternoon.

Not at all. I just know lots of the top wildlife and fisheries biologists across the country either came from the UGA or A&M schools, or from instructors who did.

By the way, you’re correct, having a degree in biology doesn’t mean you would have a firm understanding of wildlife habitat.

You folks come on here and act like you know what the hell is going on because you read an article…..

About five years ago the WQ biologist started finding deer heads in a ditch that bordered WQ’s. It didn’t take much investigating to learn that a local taxidermist whose family owned farm ground that bordered WQ’s was dumping the heads.

At first it wasn’t an issue, and then the river began to flood the area multiple times each year. When this happened, all those deer heads would congregate in one area on WQ’s once the water would go back down.

Now imagine hundreds of deer brains, from all over the region collected in one small area where deer are feeding and living.

WQ’s complained to the LDWF who came out and began taking samples of the washed up deer heads. A lot of those early positive tests came from those deer.

Again, you’re nuts if you believe people spends thousands of dollars hoping to create desired gene in a wild deer population…..something that’s been proven time and time again NOT to work by Mississippi State and Texas A&M.

Confined in a high fence? Sure. In a 100% free range situation….an absolute waste of money where any idiot who can read or Google the subject knows it.

Finally, there are only two types of ground left in Louisiana. The type that has CWD deer on it and the type that will eventually have CWD deer on it.

No one is stopping this.

Both are prion diseases, as well as the human disease Kuru.

Prions are misfolded proteins that can be transmitted and cause fatal brain damage. The result of all of them is Spongiform Encephalopathy, leading to death.
