Yeah, once you start paying cash for shite, you don't go back. I've got used vehicles and boats, don't pay over $20k (though some boats are calling my name)
If I decide to take a year off and go do something, I don't worry about a note.

Same here I have a 1999 f 250 and its just fine, for 55k I have bought 2 rentals houses that generate 1300.00 a month income and are appriciating assets vs buying a 55k depriciating asset. The new 250s are nice as hell but I will keep driving my old 7.3 liter super duty

I'd keep driving that too. They need to bring those back.

How can anyone justify paying a $700 car note. I would be pissed to pay over $400.

I have a very good job(at least most months I do) in commission based sales. I'm straight commission. I'll have my truck paid off in 3 years. You don't want to know what my house note is but it will be paid off in about 10 years, sooner if I have some good months.

Sort of my view on it. I'll try to put enough aside to be financially independent and not have to worry about working another day after 60 or 65 (though I'll prob never retire for good), but damned if I'll set it all aside and not have some fun while I'm young
Also, after training for 12 years after high school, it's going to be time to treat myself to a really nice truck
