I was all set this morning to go buy a v8 because I was told the eco sucks gas while towing. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.

Yep 8k worth when the chain let go at 50k miles. Ford would not warranty it when they knew it was a problem. Got 11 mpg pulling my side by side that my 6.2 gets 14.

I had an 11 and hauled cars around with it with no issues. But the 10-12s did have an issue where essentially the inter coolers were too big or too good. The inter coolers would either suck condensation or cool the air so fast it would create condensation and then suck it up through the intake side. Ford had a fix for them and eventually had new ones revamped for 2013s on up.

Everything I am reading is the v6 gets better mileage towing. What is he towing?

ecoboost does not get better mileage towing. it has a better towing capacity, but does not get the same mpg while towing. ford lied through their teeth on that. my dad got rid of his to get a 2500, towing a 16 foot aluminum boat his truck got maybe 10-11 and 8 while towing his camper. my 1500 got 16 towing the same boat.

I'm on my second 5.0. I've pulled lots of things with both. With a medium load I get 14. My 2016 with 3.30 gears crew cab 4x4 gets and average 18-19 going back and fourth to work. I had to replace a $6 O ring on my 11, the only problem I ever had with it.

Nope. I have owned both. My 5.0 get better mileage all around, towing and empty.
My timing chain let go at 72K miles and as widespread as the problem was, Ford told me tough shite.
Thinking back, why did I buy a truck with a motor that was designed to work so much harder for the same amount of power? They will have to stop making V8's all together before I buy another V6 turbo truck.

I have a 13 150 ecoboost and personally love its power. I did a little work on it (same stuff diesel owners do) and it really woke up. Gas mileage was a big lie though. I have buddy's 5.0s that get better mileage all around, but I love the diesel like power I get with the ecoboost. Is that alone worth the decreased mileage and more potential problems (even though I've had none and at 100k)? Your choice.

My brother has an 11 ecoboost. He's been satisfied with it. While it hasn't had any major problems, he's had some headaches with it. He says his next truck will be either the 5.0 or the 6.2 Chevy.

Same options I'm looking at for my next truck.

My 13 EB has 110K on it now and the repairs have been one set of front disc pads, spark plugs, and a battery. As for the towing part I pulled my camper to Wyoming and back and for the trip it got 12. It pulls my tractor without any problem at all (6500 pounds).

I've got to trade soon and am waiting for the F150 Powerstroke to come out before I do.

What are the OB's thoughts on the diesel option that is supposed to be coming with the late 2018 models?

Haven’t heard anything about the 17s. I will say this, I went from the 11 ecoboost to a 13 with a 5.0, no difference in fuel mileage with them while towing.

I was getting about 22mpg on interstates and 18 or so in town with the ecoboost. I get about 16 on interstate and 13 in town with the 5.0 that has 35” tires. Pulling with both, 10mpg.

I had the one issue with the intercooler on my ecoboost. It was fixed and never had another problem until I sold it.

Just scored a Nissan XD Diesel 4x4, SV trim package, 39,500, has the Cummins diesel, nearly same towing capacity as a Ford Power Stroke, 12000 lbs

my 2011 5.0 has 126k miles and I have only really done regular maintenance on it, pull a boat a few times a month. The ecoboost just doesnt seem worth the trouble
