to say an unchambered gun is a useless gun is a bit ridiculous.
It's not ridiculous. It's butt-dumb and lacking in any common sense or logical reasoning.

If I am carrying a gun on me, you can be assured that there is a round in the chamber.

If a situation arises that I need the gun, with adrenaline pumping, I might not remember that I need to chamber a round and I might not have the time to get the round chambered.

It stays loaded and ready to go.

Anyone else can do whatever they feel appropriate and I will do what I feel is appropriate for me.

I didnt read through all the posts just the last few.

I don't see how it isn't understood that when you are going to need the weapon you are most likely to need it very quickly. It's not that complicated. I'm not trolling or looking for an Internet fight.

Yes I understand the idea of not wanting an accidental discharge. There are plenty of measures that can be taken to prevent that. Again it's not that complicated.

It's your choice how you want to carry so it matters none to me. Also a firearm out of battery is better than none at all. I'll give you that.

I will not put a round in the chamber of my gun until I intend to shoot it. End of story.

My revolver will be loaded though.

I have mine unsnapped in a Bulldog holster. I just have a child, and there are alot more situations where I don't need a round chambered than times where I do. I understand the not being ready thing, and I'll take my chances on that, but you know as well as I do that 99.9% of the time you can see a situation comin if you are aware of your surrounding

For those of you that have not been in a high adrenaline life threatening situation. You should read up on how you can lose your fine motor skills during such situations. I can tell you first hand that it's nothing like deer hunting or shooting skeet in those situations. I wouldn't want to be trying to manipulate a pistol other than pulling the trigger when my life is on the line.

I keep mine holstered and unchambered too. While I'm unholstering it with one hand, at the same time I can rack the slide with the other. May take a split second longer if that.

I've had a gun drawn on me twice. Once I didn't have a gun, the other I pulled out a sawed off 20ga and put it in his face. Didn't matter that it was chambered, because he dropped his gun and ran.

I'm not going to carry around shells for my revolver in my pocket. A semi-auto can be easily chambered when the time comes, it takes much longer to load a revolver (excluding Barney Fife technique or speed loaders which I don't carry around with me). Also, there is a difference in Single Action vs Double Action weapons.

I have drawn a gun on two people in my lifetime and I had plenty of time to chamber a round both times.

Once in Jackson in the hood when I was younger. Shouldn't have been there. When I pulled the snake charmer, we were in Newellton, La.
