Has anyone done any guided fly fishing charters around flatheadlake, whitefish, or near the east entrance of Glacier national park? how was it; recommendations? 8/30 would be my only day to do one.

Two years ago We booked a guide through Lakestream fly shop which is right outside Whitefish around the exact date you’re looking to go. I don’t have anything to really compare the fishing to as it was a new experience for us, but we caught some fish and the scenery on the river is incredible. We did a half day trip as a full day would have been a bit much for the wife. I will say a half day felt like plenty time on the water.

Check out Craig, MT
The town is built around fly fishing, pretty cool place.

Lakestream in WF or Bigfork Anglers in Bigfork. Or drive west near Libby and fish the Kootenai with Dave Blackburn. Less crowded over there and he has nice cabins on the river and good restaurant.

Thanks, I was on their website a few minutes ago. I'll probably be solo on this trip. Good to know a half day is plenty of time. I was curious about that as well.

What kind of fish did yall catch? all rainbows? Any variety?

I don't have much to compare as well. My experience with fly fishing is a shakespeare entry flyrod kit and caught some bass and sac-a-lait on a popper.

Headed up there next month. Haven't looked into any guides, but definitely hiking with my gear and plan to fish some spots in the park. FYI, no license needed to fish inside the park.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, Craig seems a little out of my range. Cousin is getting married 8/31. Trying to stay close to the big fork and whitefish area. Monday is my “float day” as we have to wait till the afternoon for check in around the east entrance of glacier national park.

I took my dad on a trip almost 20yrs ago using Lakestream.

It was a wonderful trip on the middle fork of the flathead river. Could not begin to tell you how many fish we caught but it was a bunch mostly on terrestrials. For our shore lunch I got a nymph and caught 20-30 whitefish in this little riffle where we stopped. This was in the time span of 15-20 minutes.

We caught rainbows and west slope cutthroat.
