FJ100 Series Land Cruisers

Any of you baws own an fj100? I'm looking at getting rid of my 2011 f150 for a 2004 Lexus LX470 (Land Cruiser equivalent). My truck has 84k miles and the Cruiser has 130k miles. I drive about 60 miles round trip to work daily. The Land Cruiser is immaculate, has brand new Old man emu 3" lift, brand new ko2's and was serviced only by Lexus.
There is nothing wrong with my truck at all, but I've always wanted a Land Cruiser, and this one is exceptional. Any one ever trade a newer vehicle for an older one? Any experience with fj100 land cruisers? Anything I should be leery of swapping from a truck to an older SUV? I've owned 2 Tacoma's and an f150, so I've never not had a truck, even thought the old Tacoma Double Cabs didn't really have much of a bed anyway.

Mechanically it's fantastic. Everything else is just sort of average. Maybe slightly above average in some areas but for the most part things will need to be replaced. The steering column motor comes to mind.

I don't know much about the 100 series as I have had only 80s, prados (GX 570) and 200s (LX 570 X2).
very high demand on the 100s and alot of them get shipped off to the middle east. If you find a good one, jump on it. they will run for 300K plus miles. Get on Ih8mud and research, but jump on that bad boy.
cool arse trucks, especially built like what you are looking at.
ETA: saw Barf's post. Yes--they are mechanically sound but the ride on the 100 LC is very meh. I passed on one a couple of years ago because my lifted 80 LC was a better ride. Don't know about the Lexus ride but usually a bit more comfortable than the LC

I have a 100 series Land Cruiser, very good vehicle.
A big thing to look for on these is the timing belt, water pump and pulleys. It's supposed to be changed every 90k miles and cost about $1,200 at the dealer. Also, if you buy it change the heater hose T. They cost about $20 and are an easy DIY.
Have a look at ih8mud lots of info on there.

Thanks. How many miles do you have on it? The dealership that is selling it has maintenance records of the timing belt being changed.

It's a 2003 with 183,000 miles. It runs like a top.
If the one you're looking at has all service records and the price is right I would be on it like a fat kid on cake.

The air suspension on those have a habit of shitting the bed. So if that was changed out in the OME lift and the timing belt has been recently replaced you have yourself a winner.
If you don't need as much space the GX470 is also a great option. It's a LC Prado. Same air suspension problem. GX will be a lot peppier and give better gas milage as it's 80% of the weight of the LX with the same motor. IIRC you give up about 2" in width and about 5" in length but the weight difference is almost 1200lbs. I will prefer a 100 series or 80 series but I have some friends that have chosen the GX470 for the reasons I stated because they were a daily driver.

It's an 04 with 120k. Price is kind of on the high end, but I have yet to find one with that mileage in this good of condition

30 miles each way in a 100 series will make you good friends with closest gas station employee.

I'm spoiled with my f150. it has a 36 gallon tank and gets 17.5, so I get 600+ miles per tank.
I'm guessing I will get closer to 15 with the 100series

Maybe if your commute is downhill both ways.

I bought a 100 series with less than 100k miles on it about two years ago. It's indestructible. I bought it for the sole purpose of off roading/over landing and I love my cruiser so much, I sold my GMC and now use it as my daily driver. I put a 3" OME lift, ARB front and rear bumper, roof rack, skid plates and am considering a snorkel. When I bought it, the water pump and timing belts had been replaced just prior. It is ridiculous how well it has held up. Where are you located? Ih8tmud is a great place for seemingly never ending information. Routine maintenance and you will never have issues.

Located in South Louisiana. This will be my daily driver. I tow an 18' aluminum flat boat regularly, but that's about it.

Two words....do it. If I had the extra cash, I'd own a Landcruiser/Lexus.

Land Cruisers are the most reliable vehicles on the planet. Go for it.
