Fishing nets question(s)

My dad wants a new net for Father's day or his birthday (back to back days). Are some much better than others? Can't say I've payed much attention to them because I always assumed a net was a net. Are rubber nets better than the typical mesh nets?

May seem like dumb questions but I figured I would ask.
