I recently bought an xpress center console and have begun fishing the lake Ray Hubbard near dallas.

I have caught a few catfish, bass, and blue gills. I have been fishing with with live minnows and worms. I have had absolutely no luck with crappie. I have been setting my bait depth between 2-4 feet.

Should I be fishing on the bottom for crappie? If I put my bait in the bottom, how do I use a bobber?

At help would be appreciated.

Probably too shallow right now.

No, and no. They are probably suspended on structure right now. I know nothing about that lake, but if there are docks in water over 10' deep, I would try pitching a jig under the docks and let the jig slowly fall until you find a pattern and depth.

this time of year, find some deep brush (10-12'), and no matter how deep you are fishing always use a slip bobber

Mid September thru early Oct, we were catching them 50-60 yards from the shore trolling with Bomber A and Bandit 100s about 4-6' deep. Mind you I'm way north of TX. We've been catching nice hauls all year long and had to move out and go deeper as the crappie did when the temps started dropping.

What does the slip bobber do for you? Set a knot above it?

I always use a bopper when fishing 8-12 feet of water. Just use a slip bopper with a bopper stopper like the diagram above. Here is a video showing you how to set it up. I caught 20 my last time out in 12 feet of water on a sunken tree using this setup.

Fwiw, I never use one when fishing over 3 feet deep.
