Looking for any recs for a good fish finder for my kayak. I will be using it in Japan for the next three years so not really sure what would be the best option. If anyone has any recs or ones I should stay away from it would be greatly appreciated. TIA

It seems like everyone kayak I see has a Lowrance Elite Series. Usually the Elite3 or Elite4. I have also seen a few Garmins. I can't give a review of them but I am in the kayak market and have probably looked at over 1,000 kayaks and id say 80% had a Lowrance.

Lowrance Elite 5 HDI is what I run, and unfortunately you just missed a hell of a deal on them. It must have sold out literally in the last day or two. I thought I was coming in here to hook you up for a second. I just bought a brand new one for $148 after mail in rebates but no longer avail.

Interested in the responses here. Another question: does the transducer mount (scupper vs side of yak arm) change which fishfinder/chart plotter you should use?

I've been looking at the raymarine dragonfly (various models) for my Cuda 12, but haven't pulled the trigger on one yet. I often see it recommended for kayaks.

Bump. I'm also looking for a fish finder / gps for my kayak. There are some very good deals on a Lowrance Hook 4.

Should I spend the extra money on a 5" screen and is a 7" screen overkill for a kayak?

Also would appreciate the experience provided by Garmin, Humminbird and Raymarine owners.

I have a Jackson Big Tuna and any advice on set-up is appreciated, especially the transducer mount.

I have watched tons of YouTube videos on the finders and setup but would like to hear more from the OB. Thanks.

I'm of the opinion bigger is better, but I would at least go 5"

Thanks. Went to Academy today and they only didn't have a Hook 4 on display. Only 3x, 5, 7 & 9. 5 was nice, but really liked the screen space on the 7.

May wait before buying. If I would go with a 7, I have to rethink how I would mount to my kayak.

I have a hook 4 w/ gps and down imaging on my fish and ski. After I've tinkered with the sensitivity and stuff, I really, really like it. Wanted to get a bigger screen, but opted for saving a few bucks, and I personally don't regret it. To me, the size difference between 4 and 5 wasn't worth $100. I hope to get a 7 in the next year or so and move the 4 to the bow.
