Truth. Get one of those rum runners that looks like a water bottle.

Extra batteries for lights, radio, and thermacell. I always liked having a pair of walkie talkies for me and my pops or my buddy when I was a kid walking in the woods. We were never out of yelling distance but I felt like a Bad arse with one. But as stated previously I never go in the woods in Louisiana without a thermacell regardless of weather.

Bring aluminum foil, bananas, and assorted toppings for bananas. Foil packet bananas in the coals are money for dessert time after dinner and you can make them together. Bring a couple complete changes of clothes. Another set of shoes. Read your rule book. What kind of den leader do you have? An interactive and fun one or a stick in the mud? I'm serious about the bananas and foil. Bring enough for the whole den and it's something all of you can do together. Oh, and a patch kit for the tent along with extra guy line. Reflective tape on the guy lines is an ankle saver as well. Have fun!

Fire starter, firewood (if you're going to be in a busy campground where it may be hard to find good wood out there), stuff for the kids to make smores, fishing poles. Maybe an outdoor game like horseshoes

A lot of good suggestions here. My boys are in Scouts now and one has his Eagle Board of Review tomorrow night so we have been on a few camping trips. The only other thing I might suggest would be some cheap solar lights from Harbor Freight or some place that sells them. (See link.) You can leave them outside all day and they light up the campsite well at night. You can also take them into the tent after dark and it saves on batteries.

Solar Lights

Also, as previously mentioned, Cubs need to go through a class to have any kind of knife on them. Once they obtain their "Totin' Chip", they can bring a knife on campouts but must have their card with them at all times.

Cook some decent food, hobo packets or if possible, take some cast iron.

Otherwise a good attitude. Don't expect to get much sleep, embrace that ahead of time and any sleep you do get will be a bonus.

sleeping aid for you for sure. A cot or blow up mattress of some kid to get you off the floor. Bring plenty of small snacks and drinks, the kids seem to go through them quick. I learned from another scout dad to organize and store camping stuff in Tupperware (or similar) bins. I keep all my cooking in one, sleeping bags in one, one for tools, ropes, batteries, etc. You may not need everything but at least throw it in the back of your truck for the trip, you never know when you or a friend may need something. A good wagon or cart is a must to haul in and out.

Well then you know it is a long hike to the camping area.

Daughter and SIL just did that two weeks ago with their son.

I'd earned my Snipe Hunting Merit Badge in the Boy Scouts.

Snipe Hunting Merit Badge.

Shush. These are vey illusive animals. I know they are out ther somewhere. You may have earned this merit badge if;

You have ever participated in a traditional Boy Scout snipe hunt. Extra cudos to you if you actually caught one, OR

Youhave ever been part of a project where the goal seemed to be attainable but turned out to be extremely illusive.

Remember you can award this merit badge to someone you think qualifies as well as earning it yourself.

A heater!

Every time I took my boys a damn cold front came thru. This was in Mississippi so a little colder than south Louisiana.
