Finished refurbishing my grandfathers #15 wash pot

My grandfather passed away last winter and was a farmer all his life. On Mother's Day I was walking through his barns, checking things out when I came across this pot he would use when butchering hogs.
I asked my grandmother if I could have it and she said yes. That's when I decided to turn it into my jambalaya pot for football season.
After research, I settled on two different methods to remove the rust. On the outside I would use potato/salt method and soak the inside with vinegar/water mixture.
I took the pot over to Chuckd's house and we got started. Both methods failed miserably, so I did what any normal human would do. I took a power sander to it.
Here, I am starting the curing process.
And the finished product. It needs a few more coats of oil but I'm happy with it. Here's to football season
Thanks to my bud Chuckd for using his sander.

Whatever you do, keep it out of your house....pig poltergeists might seek revenge.
How deep is that jet pump well of yours?
By the way....really nice job on that pot.

I can tell you that I am very much looking forward to making cracklins in it.
Thanks! It turned out much better than I expected.
Oh and I was at my buddies house, which is in south lake Charles so I can't expect that it's too deep.

That looks really good. My wife had one from her grandmother and we cleaned it up and turned it into a flower pot. That's what she wanted.

Hopefully soon. Thinking about frying fish. I heard that helps the curing process and I have to hookup on oil.
I'm not sure how big it is but, we estimated it's about 15 gallons.

Nice job on that pot. That's a legacy piece. My grandmother swears that rubbing a cast iron pot with a pine cone then throwing it into a raging fire of leaves and logs is the only way to season a pot. 90 years of wisdom. I just fry fish and hope something sticks.
