You need to let it dry first. If it blew down and is green wood its going to smoke/burn like shite.

I have a fig tree in my back yard and picking them doesn't bother me one bit, but some people get that white sap on them when they pick the figs and start itching like crazy.

Personally, I'd be a bit leery about using fig wood, and like already mentioned, it needs to be dried to work properly anyway.

Let it dry. Light a piece and smell how it smells. I love pecan smell and flavor imparted. Different woods offer taste and color. Let it dry and try.

I used it years ago and don't remember the exact flavor profile but remember it being pretty dang good. I chopped it up into chunks and used it smoking a few things on a Weber Bullet. As others have mentioned, make sure it is really dry.

Generally speaking, the wood from any tree that produces a fruit or a nut is ok to cook with.

Ran across this a while back looking to see what different woods you can smoke with.

I know persimmon is great. I suspect fig would be similar. As someone pointed out, fruit and nut trees are generally a good bet for smoking.
