I wouldn't call donating to Goodwill throwing away.
True, not technically speaking but they didn't try to fix it before they gave it away.

Was that your Dyson that you donated to Goodwill because you were too stupid to know what a reset button was?

I don't use it but I'm sure mine are still in good working order.

I also hate to see things get thrown away that could possibly get fixed or even be a parts donor for something else. Just this week I got a free brand new air compressor. All that is wrong is the coupling between the motor and the pump sheared.
List of free things I have fixed: bostitch framing gun, 6ft stepladder, Makita jigsaw, weedeater, and numerous other things I can't remember. I could have had a free generator but I fixed it and gave it back to them.
I drive my wife nuts. Just last week she was having a garage sale and I was bringing things back inside! Lol

Yep, have seen things like this in action. I bought a nice table at a garage sale and casually mentioned that I try to fix things first to see if salvageable before tossing things out. The lady said that I can have their push mower since hubby said it is broken.

Brought it home, cleaned residue in carb and noticed it had a new plug, new blades, fresh oil. Added gas and it runs great. Oh well, I'll give it to someone local....

It was the same in my family. Now I'm married to a dude who can fix anything. We do all our own building additions, put a metal roof on our house (hip roof), tiled all our floors with polished marble, etc., etc., etc. Have saved thousands of dollars and the place is gorgeous.
