Question is in the title. How far is reasonable to space duck blinds between strangers. This is open water with clear line of sight to one another.

I got into a lease and from using online maps I can see there’s a pretty well maintained duck blind right on the border of our lease and whoever we neighbor. I can put blinds in 350 yards away and one a good 400+ away. The reason I’m asking is because the maps seem to indicate a good spot for a blind about 215 yards away.

This is duck hunting so I can expect some drama as always, but if I can avoid most of it then that’s ideal. Here’s my thought process tell me if I’m wrong. I can put 2 blinds in at 300 and 400 yards away. However, I think my best chance at ducks will likely be at a location about 215 yards away. Am I wrong to build a blind closer to another group when I have the ability to mover further away?

da answer lies in asking urself the same question from da existing blinds pov, what would you tink about new blind being placed 300yds much less 215yds from your blind?

i'd be pissed especially if you didn't discuss it wit me, i'd hate for you to go thru all dat work, arrive in da dark opening morning and find it somehow burnt to the fricking waterline by lighting strike unfortunately, just sayin, you asked...

It's your property, build it where you want. Either way yall are both close to the boundary line. No one is wrong or right.

Minimum distance on a lot of WMAs is 250yds for whatever that's worth.

Personally I'd build it where I think the ducks want to be. Without knowing how much that other blind is hunted, I would hate to build mine somewhere else only to find out 2 weeks into the season that they rarely hunt the close blind and I would've been better off building mind where I wanted to to begin with.

I would do everything I could to have a conversation with the owner of the other blind before I put one that close.

All good advice here. I’ll probably build the first blind about 400+ yards away just so I can get a feel going forward. I have the time to build another one in no time if/when I want to. Here’s the thing. This lease that I’m in hasn’t been hunted much in the past. So, the neighbor has had free reign to hunt and do as he pleases without any conflict. He’s got a blind built within rock throwing distance of the border. I’m gonna be at a minimum around 100 to 200 yards from the border in all the spots I want to build. So, any issues he raises will be pretty flimsy. If blinds start getting burnt and what not, well no one will kill ducks, and I’ll sneak into some potholes on the lease... I think I’ll be good, if not I’ll have some good drama to report back with.

Keep in mind the direction the ducks are coming from. Its one thing to be 215 yards apart east and west if the ducks are coming from the north so neither are at an advantage, but if the ducks are coming from the east or west then someone is going to be butthurt as the other guy will get first chance 90% of the time.

appears from ur response that you dgaf about being a good fellow hunter and having a productive convo wit neighbor that would possibly benefit both of you, and you appear to be looking forward to conflict by causing trouble, good luck if that is the case, consider urself warned, fricking inconsiderate duck dynasty skyblasting newbie...

signed,

ur neighbor

If you are on your property and he is on his property build where you wish.

Problem is that your working birds will pass close to him. If he is pissed he will just shoot them off of you. No one wins

common curiosity aside, this is going to be a big factor for both blinds being that close to each other.
Example, if your blind is south of his blind, on North wind days you will cut him off; on south wind days he will cut you off (ducks set up & land against the wind)

Are blinds used to "claim my spot" or could you consider staying mobile with a pop-up/boat blind?

I can tell you that 400 yards is about as close as I'd want. I've worked with lots of pit blinds in ag fields and anything under 400 is PRETTY close, especially for strangers.

If you are friends, and respect each others birds you can get by with less, but thats an exception.

NOW, as mentioned before, if its a north/south arrangement, give me the blind to the north every time.

Anything under 400 is going to lead to heartburn, trust me.

I would 100% speak with the neighbors beforehand a LOT of grief could be spared by this simple thing

if after you speak to him, the neighbor is an a-hole fork him and put blind wherever you want but get ready for skyblasting

hope it works out

Blinds that are that close to the border mean that's where the ducks like it. If you have a lease, why would you put your blind so close to another lease? Because that's where the ducks are.

I agree with the 400 yds, but it doesn't stop you from building another small one at 200 and hunting it when he's not there. I like a few options

This sounds miserable. I wouldn’t put a blind that close to anyone. Try to get as far away from other blinds as possible. Use good decoys, brush the hell out of your blind, and out call em! If that doesn’t work, maybe a few bags of golden retriever in your spread.
