Any chance doves will still be around after this storm or did it push them all out?

I saw a few this afternoon on the way to Monroe. They looked like locals.

We had at least twice as many on the 10th as we did when we shot them for the MS opener on the 1st.

My dad turned over some fresh dirt to start getting food plots ready. Came back 4 hours later and there were 300 birds on about 3 acres of bare dirt. No seed, just dirt.

He called my nephew and he brought some buddies down the next morning. Killed 6 limits by 7:30.

This is after we struggled opening weekend the 1st.

Those things are fickle. You just never know.

Local birds are usually bigger than those migrating. We have a good stand of local birds in our area.

I've always thought the opposite. The local birds born this summer are usually tiny little things. I almost feel sorry for them when I pick them up.

The ones that come in after Thanskgiving look like freaking pigeons. They're almost intimidating sitting on the wire.

Agreed. In TX panhandle, beginning of season was mostly tiny birds. A lot of them left when the cold front came thru last weekend. The ones I have been killing the last few days are noticeably larger, closer to the size of an Eurasian dove.

The birds I saw driving hwy 165 from Columbia to Monroe were big, fat, lazy, and in pairs or singles. The birds I shot opening day were small, in bunches, and flying 65 mph. Now tell me which birds were local.
