Not a club just a small tract of private land.

Raised brown camp with tin roof.

We had better luck with the wood ducks this year than the deer.

You got the right area. If we're ever out there at the same time, come by and have a beer or 50. We eat and drink good out there.

No. Scott is the first name of the guy who owns it.

Either of these guys look familiar? They are the 2 who are there the most.

these discussions are always interesting. I think I could have a good time drinking with most folks on this board. deer hunting with them may be a different story.

Hey, if I'm huntin your place, especially in Ohio, ill abide by whatever rules you'd want me to. You come to my place you can shoot anything you damn well please, because if you don't the public landers will.

My property is in MS. so the LA regs arent that important to me. I would, however, like my home state (and ms for that matter) to have bigger deer. I'm all for kids and first timers getting to shoot any buck they want. There is nothing better. I just am of the opinion that letting small bucks walk and shooting mature deer is the way to go.

I know everyone has different situations(public land, bad neighbors, strictly meat hunter, love shooting spikes, etc..) but if some regs were passed(and people followed them) and everyone we're seeing and shooting better deer....that seems like a good thing.

and now my avatar is whacked? been having it for 2 years.

If there was some sort of regs that worked to improve deer numbers and quality I'd be all for it. I haven't shot anything under a 6pt in 20 years so no big deal there.

As stated before I'd like to see the numbers of deer killed reduced first

Do you think a larger antler restriction would help with that?

I would think that a larger anltered deer would(generally) be older and smarter, thus living longer and keeping the population up. I know some smarter guys than me can weigh in on that.

Why should we reduce the number of deer killed?

As in?

6pt or better? Is it better to kill a yearling 6 or a yearling fork horned 4pt?

8pt or better? I'd personally rather a 2 year old 8pt breeding a doe than a 2yr old 6 but if both chase the same doe the 8 gets shot. So basically you wind up with the prefered bucks dead and less quality living.

I'd hate to see spread used because some places just don't have the width genetics.

Another view is that if its 6pt or better then every spike and 4pt that would have been killed survives another year. (Would love to know how many are killed each year). Only problem is, bucks don't have babies. People need to quit shooting every doe they see because TV said they need a 1:1 ratio but have no fricking clue what their herd numbers actually are.

this is what I thinking.

this is actually what a biologist in my area told us to do. we have a LARGE doe population. He said, "I'm not telling you to break the law(wink wink) but you need to shoot every doe you see."

he didnt mean to carry on this way forever, but do so until we had the number under control. Before I hunted this property, a biologist came out and told them to shoot 70 does a year for the next 3 years and then reassess. on 1700 acres with 10 guys, we havent come close to doing that.

States are simply too big to have one set of regulations to rule all.

Marsh deer, our swamp deer, and tensas bruisers are way to different as are the methods of hunting them.

I'm a fan of management, but I see no law that will benefit all areas of the state.
