anything dark with bold lines so it breaks up your outline. Deer and turkey look for movement. If they see you moving it doesnt matter what you have on.

The newest camo outfit is for guys with little peckers to overcompensate.

ETA: No true hunter should ever sacrifice comfort or funcionality to look cool. The only thing I belive in dropping big bucks on is boot/waders and a good high end coat or parka. Everthing else is for show.

This. I got some really cool field jackets and Gore-Tex parkas from the military. It's amazing some of the stuff our armed forces literally throw away!

lol. I hunt in bluejeans and a hoodie or what ever is warm. I mean WTF is the point of Camoing out with a F***ing guillie suit and then wearing hunters orange?

Because according to Dr. Karl Miller, University of Georgia, who has done the most advanced research on deer sight, orange looks almost black to them, where blue glows.

Everything same pattern is faux pas. That's how you tell how long someone has been hunting. The more different patterns, the more seasoned hunter

This isn't true. I know many experienced hunters that wear matching camo. I wear matching camo and have killed lots of deer, hogs, ducks, geese, alligators, nutria, coons, etc and have been hunting since I was 4-5.

Especially when it comes to bowhunters. With that said, I like for my camo to be similar while bowhunting. I'm not so worried while duckhunting/goose hunting as bowhunting deer.

And like others have said, you have to cover your face while duck hunting and especially while hunting on a sunny day. Geese are even more observant than ducks.

When deer hunting you have to wear orange so it doesn't matter that much. I think pretty much all of the new camo is pretty effective.

what are the rules regarding private land hunters orange for deer hunting? didn't think it was as strict as when hunting public land

Didn't think you needed orange for private land unless it is a club rule. Even on public land when just bowhunting you don't need orange. Just during gun season.

Duck and Turkey hunting you need to blend in a much as possible. Other than that you can pretty much wear earth tones and skip the camo.

Yes to the duck hunting, but no to the turkey hunting. For that I had killed to many birds wearing a green shite and blue jeans. Just don't move your arse and the bird will come to you.

don't sit next to the guy in the blind who has all matching camo.

Know a guy who is 63 and has been hunting since he was a little kid. He has been all over the place hunting and has some very nice deer on his property and has plenty of animals on the wall. And he matches his camo from his hat to his pants. So maybe just in your neck of the woods that's how you tell. But around my place most peoples camo matches. Don't really know how much of a difference it makes. But I take every precaution possible to insure that I'm not seen, smelled or heard.

And yet on my dad's best stand he has a blue bath towel hanging from the window to block the sun during the morning. Deer can get used to anything.

Any person hunting deer shall display on his head, chest, and/or back a total of not less than four hundred square inches of material of a daylight fluorescent orange color known as "hunter orange" during the open gun deer hunting season. Persons hunting on privately owned, legally posted land may wear a cap or a hat that is completely covered with hunter orange material in lieu of the foregoing requirements to display four hundred square inches of hunter orange. These provisions shall not apply to persons hunting deer from elevated stands on property which is privately owned and legally posted, or to archery deer hunters, hunting on legally posted land where firearm hunting is not permitted by agreement of the owner or lessee. On Wildlife Manage Areas all hunters except waterfowl and dove hunters must display 400 square inches of hunter orange and wear a hunter orange cap during the open gun season for deer. Hunters participating in special dog seasons for rabbit and squirrel are required to wear a minimum of a hunter orange cap.

alright, that is what I thought it was. I typically wear something when walking to my stand, then take it off once I get there

I have a buddy whose camo has to match. He kills more monster deer then anyone I have ever met and was literally raised in the woods.

I have never matched camo and have killed deer and ducks in everything from blue jeans to BDU's. This is the only rule I tend to stick to (usually). I don't like camo with lot of black in it. It tends to look like a "blob" at distances. I just don't like it.

Other then that, COVER YOUR FACE. This rule is the second most important IMHO. The first being be f'n still. If you are still a deer will not see you. I don't care if you're wearing a pink f'n tutu. Ducks, well, be still and leave your pink tutu at home.

As Harold Knight told me once after I made that kinda comment to him...... John, just imagine how big of a buck you could have killed if you would have been wearing good camo from head to toe.

Sounds like someone is selling camo for a living.

Camo is the least important detail when I'm deer hunting. Motion. Motion. Motion.

But, I don't wear orange unless I'm on public land. Just never have.
