What ever boat Capt. Jason Mikel is on. Went with him way back when he was Captain on the boat Back Lash.

Second Capt. Jason, I went with him several times on the Backlash and his newer boat. I think it’s named the Finest Kind. Great dude that knows that part of the Gulf better than anyone I know. I honestly try to go to Destin only when AJ’s are in season because he has some unreal spots for those donkeys.

Captain Travis Ream on the Lady Em. I've been fishing with Him for several years now and He and his crew are some absolute fish killers. His family has run that boat in Destin for close to 30 years.

ETA: Mid September will have Gag grouper and AJ open so pony up the money and do a Gag trip, along with AJ and possibly ARS open you can absolutley fill the box with meat.

Really depends on the size boat/ and people and budget. Lady Em does slay fish but that’s a 65 ft boat. Chris Kirby is great but he isn’t cheap. One Shot charters runs an Invincible cat I think.

I agree 100% with you. Most Capt's are good, the problem I see are people think they can pay for a 4 or 6 hr charter and go out and catch fish like the picture above. While anything is possible it is not very probable to expect that. Whatever boat a person chooses do at least a 10 or 12 hr trip to give the Capt'n the time to get offshore to deeper water to catch quality fish.

Yep, you aren't doing a meat haul like that on anything but a 10, and honestly more like a 12. That's why I typically will base my offshore trip in Destin on joining one of those when he gets it put together since they typically are always looking for a +1 to fill out a 12. It saves me the hassle of spending a shite ton on the complete charter but the downside is it is a total crapshoot on who you will be fishing with. Luckily, most people that book a 10-12 are more experienced fisherman than the average Jim and his kids that just want to go out for 4 hours.

7 guys with 3 days worth. I've got a group that does a 72 hour every September. Try to time it for gags, aj's and red snapper to be open at the same time. Some years they are all open, but in the past snapper has closed on us early. On another note I may possibly have a couple of spots for my September 1st trip this year. 2 regulars have other commitments.
