I have 2 lacy dogs as well and would put them on anything. But I will say mine are also the most protective dogs ever when around my 7 year old who they think is their kid. My male will stay between him and anyone they don’t know while the female loops around behind them and just sits a couple of feet away. Never been an issue as long as it’s their way, but the boy can’t go on tracks because they think that’s their first priority, but I’m good with it. Randall Devall in Wilson/Ethel area is about the best trainer anywhere and raises catahoulas as well.

Best I've seen were Jack Russell Terriers, drive out the roof and mean as heck. They would go nuts if they bayed one alive.
Another factor I've seen is the size of the dog, if a small dog the deer will not run and stay bayed to fight. Allowing an easy kill shot in a thicket.

Watching these dogs work is truly impressive.
Yep. Son wounded one Sunday. Had 2 guys with 3 dogs out that couldn't find anything past the last blood I found. Was fun to watch them try to figure it out and circle back to the last thing they hit on though
One the one hand I was happy I hadn't lost my touch and they couldn't find anything further that what I did.
One the other hand, my son didn't get his first deer and I was apparently wrong about the shot. She (dmap property) sort of buckled and went off like she was hit good. Found good red blood for 100 yards or so through the worst palmetto thicket I've ever been in.
I think the angle of the shot was so severe that he took a good strip off her side without hitting anything important that bled good for a while and then clotted. Found white hair later in the day that I couldn't see real well with the light and frost
