Cutting a Cypress Tree on a Lake Bank

I have two cypress trees on my lake bank that I would like to cut down. Unless the lake level is really high, they aren't underwater.
I read that it is illegal in LA to cut a cypress tree in public waters (which my land borders). Since my tree is 4-6ft from the water line, is it illegal to do this?
I would like to cut them to fall into the lake to make fish habitat and give a clearer view of the lake from my house. I just don't want to be hit with a fine.

BUT, leave at least one low branch on each tree. Those will be to tie your yo-yo's on when the water rises and those white persh hit the shallows to feed and/or spawn.

To answer your question, I would imagine it is illegal to cut ANY tree on land that is not yours. Here in Louisiana, the judge calls that destruction of property.

The land is mine, but the lake isn't. I've lived in my house 8 years and only have seen water up to the tree once, other than that it's never in the water.
So it is illegal to cut down a cypress that is on my land, but outside of the natural banks of a public body of water?

The Louisiana Natural and Scenic Rivers Act allows the agency to regulate pollution of waters and provides for civil penalties of up to $1000 per day for each violation.13 The Act also prohibits commercial harvesting of timber within 100 feet of the low water mark, with exceptions including selective harvesting of trees, cutting to
control disease or insects, and harvesting timber for personal use by the person who owns or leases the property.

If it's on your property then yes you can cut them down. Make sure you know where your property line is
There are no laws making it illegal to cut cypress in Louisiana

If the lake is state-owned, the property line between your property and the state's property is typically the mean high water line. Just because you haven't seen water up to the tree has absolutely nothing to do with the location of your property boundary line.
I'd suggest hiring a good Professional Land Surveyor, and a good attorney ..... in that order. Both need to be experienced in matters involving water boundaries.
Just my $.02 --- but in this case my opinion might be worth that (or even a slightly larger) amount.

A lot of times bald cypress will grow back after you cut them

Legal or not, there's just something wrong about cutting cypress along the bank.

Checks out.
I don't think I'd cut a cypress tree but I haven't been in your shoes.

Not illegal to cut cypress trees in La. if on your property. Being on a lake is the question

Goes on at TB almost erry day. Next time you're there, scan the bank for the regrowing trees. Pro-tip: back out with sonar on. Profit.
