I’m not really a crappie guy, but that’s my go to when the bass aren’t biting

Just dangle electric chicken near the edge of your boat and the crappie will jump in the ice chest.

IMO jigs are feathered.

Toppers are plastic.

Some plastics are good. Some feathered are good.

Whether I’m jigging or slow rolling, I always have a bucket of minnows with me. Some days that’s all that will get a bite and some days I just quit and kick back and watch a cork bounce.

I do the same thing.

Went yesterday and stopped for ice and minnows. Told my son I'll get ice and snacks and you go buy 2 dozen minnows.

Get in the boat and see the dumbass bought 200 minnows. The fish had lock jaw yesterday so we ended up making a bunch of minnows happy by setting them free LOL.

Buddy of mine turned me on to purple with gold tail. Don't have em around here, he gave me a few in the bag but couldn't read the color name. Got em at Academy. My fishing buddy said it was mardi gras.

Commonly referred to as "LSU" in our great state. Much like electric chicken it's a reliable color from white perch (N LA redneck...not sorry) to reds and specks.

I have tried electric chicken a lot over the years, and while I am not really big on color making a huge difference, I have found Cajun Cricket to be better. In the end, whichever you fish better is the one to use.

Quick question on the mini tubes, the jig head is supposed to go up inside the tube, eye pops through the side, then tie on.... right?

Then if you want to change color you have to re-tie?

You can bend the hook in slightly then stretch a rubber band for braces between the jig eye and barb. Works pretty well

The carpet in the bottom of my boat is covered with the tail fibers of these. The long tail is reflective and with a long ultra light and a wiggle you get a nice flash off the tail. I've watched crappie charge at these like a rocket..... subtle brag at sight fishing clear water

You can use the insert jig head type, and yes you either have to retie or split and band the tube after color change. I usually just use the heads like pictured below and thread the tubes on through the head like you would a grub. Sometimes they don't like seeing the head and I change, but I usually start off with the standard painted jig heads.

My local walmart shrunk the fishing section in half, selection was poor. This is what I'll have to start out with. I also decided to respool my ultralights with 4# diameter 15# braid.

I'll just have to get the other stuff online, I just prefer to hold lures in my hand before buying.

Make sure your jig is not hanging straight down. Make it form a 90 degree angle to the line.
