Crappie Jigs

Sacalait for some of you.
The only way I know to catch crappie is live minnows, I have only caught them accidentally on artificial.
My inlaws have moved to a large reservoir known for decent crappie fishing. They have a small boat. I also have a neighborhood lake where the managers want us to catch as much crappie as possible.
What little crappie jigs and what not should I stock up on?
I already have some ultralight rigs with 6# mono for trout fishing streams, just nothing to tie on for crappie.
Are maribou jigs still a thing?

In addition to whichever jigs you choose, grab you a container of Berkeley crappie nibbles. Chartreuse is prob best all around color. Slow rolling a beetle spin is a nice change of pace if the jiggin action's slow and can help locate fish as well. Some real lunkers to be had slow rolling like that I tell ya.

Another question to insert-
Color patterns
I know enough to know that serious crappie fishermen have every color combination under the sun for any condition.
Because Im not that serious, what are a handful of go-to color combinations for the jigs? The reservoir is perpetually stained, the neighborhood lake stays very clear.

Crappie Nibbles, thanks for the tip. Do you just tip the jig with them, or can you fish them as simply bait?

Tip the jig and sort of pinch them tight on the hook. Those things can be the difference in getting them to bite when they're otherwise lockjaw. Also the lighter the line the better. 4 lb test can make a big difference. Those colors in the link look good. Id like something like those and maybe also all chartreuse, all white/pearl, black body/chartreuse tail.
Darker colors for stained water, lighter for more clear water. But of course try everything you have if the bite's slow.

They make a crappie nibble dough, as opposed to the pellet. Would that be better for your suggested application method to the jig?

I usually used tube jigs, stained water I like black, chartreuse or pink fire tail.Clear water blue, monkey milk color works well.Berkely crappie nibbles work great, leave the jar lid off so they dry out some, stay on the hook better.Crappie can be very fickle, lot of days they hit plain tube jigs very well, other times I can’t catch them unless I lip hook a shiner on back of jig. Then I’ve had days that they wouldn’t hit anything except a beetle spin. They can drive you crazy trying to figure out what they want on any given day

Fo sho. You can swear up and down you went out on the worst day possible but change something up and game on. Proper line seems to really be a big deal. Tube jigs are definitely tried and true, hair jigs and the matrix style all good but from lake to lake one style may be working better than the others. And you cant go wrong with stopping by the local bait shop and ask the folks in there what they're hitting best. One other good option to try is tipping a jighead with a shiner thru the lips (as already mentioned).

You only need one model, and two colors. Bobby Garland baby shad in Monkey Milk and Cajun Cricket.

Black and chartreuse soft tubes. 1/16 oz. or 1/32 oz. jig head, pick your color. Try a variety of colored Power Bait Crappie Nibbles until you find which one they prefer at the moment. Lay a few Nibbles out on the deck of your boat or your tackle box to dry them and firm them up a little and they'll stay on the hook longer.
That's only the beginning but that'll get you started.

Are yo-yo’s allowed? I like Bobby gardin baby shad as well.
Edit: I’ve also dehydrated the nibbles and for some reason I can second them lasting longer.

Bobby Garland's definitely money.

The best crappie fisherman I've ever known says they'll hit any color. As long as it has chartreuse.

Good to go on those but check regs for current rules and regs. I believe you have to put your initials on each in public waters, Im not sure about possible limits on quantity used in one place at one time...there may be a reg tht speaks to tht as well. Bonfire, whiskey few boxes of yo yos with shiners makes for a fine overnight adventure.

Blue thunder and green hornet are always money for me. Pink or chartreuse colored head.
