coyotes eat the shite out of fawns .... and rabbits, quail, and turkey eggs and poults

during the denning season, mother yotes have to feed 5-6 hungry pups

these are pics from trail cams, imagine how many fawns are killed and not seen

You have good food for the coyotes or they would leave you kill them more will show up in their place. Depredation is very very tricky.
Make brush piles when you clear land don't burn it, if you burn anything burn damn fescue your native warm season grasses will show up, but make brush piles they make good habitat for rabbits. Nature needs to be symbiotic, will coyotes kill fawns sure ratio of females to males is 3:1 to 5:1 so chances coyote is culling smaller females is very high, plant apple trees white oaks black berries wild grapes. everything will eat apples inventory your hardwoods clean up around them cut any vines off of them. The more abundant wildlife you have is healthy land healthy land is noisy land at dusk easier to stalk your deer. Oh plant milkweed too. Killing a few coyotes won't wreck anything but don't go crazy. Hogs not are not endegionus kill every fricking one you see.

I love the pic with the coyote in a pile of corn!
Keep feeding your deer with feeders & the coyotes will just sit there and pick them off.

wl&f told me one coyote will average 7 deer per year multiply times your 5 or ten coyotes - need to kill all and keep killing- food will bring new ones -we are trying to get members to stay on stand 40 mins or so after dark with call to kill them - gut piles good too

d take a very serious coyote infestation to really hurt the deer. Coyotes are just not that formidable of a predator. Feral dogs and wolves are different, but I can't see a coyote doing much damage to the deer population.

you should talk to a biologist. the damage they do to the deer herd is more significant than you think

Have to correct you. I read a study that a biologist did in E.Feliciana parish. He caught a femal and collared her to track her to her den. He put a camera up and that fall she brought 8 fawns into her den.
A few years ago I found a small 6 point dead on a creek. I crossed that sandbar the evening before coming out from a hunt. The next morning there was blood and tracks everywhere. At daylight I followed it and these coyotes had run this 6pt down.

No doubt that they can and will feed on deer as a main food source.

To the OP. When I was a teen Id set up in a field that bordered a section of woods where I always heard them get cranked up in the evenings. On full moon nights Id take a bucket or two of the chicken livers from the store and put it 60-75 yards out from the woodline. Id blow on that rabbit swuealer call and eventually one or two would make a pass checking things out. Kinda like a scout. Not long after the whole pack would come out. That's when id let the lead sling. Fun times

Some sort of motion decoy to keep it keying on something other than you. A large hawk/turkey/goose feather tied with thread to a stick can even work on days with a little wind. Set up with a CROSSWIND. And give yourself pretty good room from the decoy. They just love to circle and come from downwind.

I'm gonna be up in my deer stand, not on the ground or in a blind.

good idea Feliciana, I'll pick up some livers.

So, the logic goes like this?

We need to hunt deer because the population is out of control.

We need to hunt yotes because they are hurting deer population levels.

Doesn't seem to follow

No it doesn't. Coyotes are native predators. I'm not sure why everybody thinks they should be exterminated.

Cause they like shootin' shite. :-/ Why I got 27 dislikes on the first page. Whateves, might not be popular, but I just don't see how killing a native, non game species who isn't directly harming your property or livelihood is ethical. We've got plenty coyotes in east texas and plenty deer.

Don't worry. A hunter using a rifle will never wipe out a coyote population. Will only keep them in check, at best! The only way to wipe them out is with cyanide poppers, and only professionals hired and sanctioned by the state can get those. I'm not even sure the pros can use them anymore with all the bleeding hearts out there. I can assure you that if you don't keep them in check, they will put a serious dent in your deer population.
