Great story. Thanks Roger.

Where for art thou Romeo?

[quote]Some hick killed him for the fun of it.

That really sucks.

Yeah, I used to track Romeo in winter, and he was just an awesome critter. Most definitely betrayed many long held beliefs of wolves in the wild. Never ran with a pack, just showed up alone near the Mendenhall Glacier every year.

Awesome. The size difference to that chocolate lab is astounding. When humans domesticated the wolf it was our first foray into genetic engineering and a key to our own evolution.

Watching a mama humpback teach the young ones how to breach and play is pretty cool. Don't have any photos of it personally though. Got a few bear encounters, this was probably the coolest. Bear swimming in a fjord with walls too steep to get out. Ends up hauling out on ice.

I witnessed the crimson tide at grand pass off west timbalier. Hundreds of bull reds all over the place. The water was literally blood red. Had 6 heavy duty poles iin the water and in less than 10'seconds they were all stripped.

I've seen two "black wolves". I'm sure i'll catch some slack but...

we were running dogs around 1989 in St Helena. It came over the hill, with the dogs trailing it about 200 yards behind. of course i didn't shoot, would have been about 80 yards, and kept going across the open cutover.

in East Feliciana, around 1995. we were going across the field and up a hill in a truck, 3 mutt dogs were running at us and ran past us, which i thought was odd. we got over the hill and same as before, a long haired jet black dog was booking it across the field, and went thru that fence like it wasn't there. I'm assuming it was about to run those 3 dogs down and xxxxxx. and you thought a greyhound was fast, i'd like to put whatever that was on a track.

what it was, i don't know, but 2 very odd situations with other dogs involved.

Saw a moose in Maine
Huge schools of jellyfish and lots of sea snakes in the Persian Gulf. A great white shark somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. A mountain lion that was too close for comfort in Kentucky and a bald eagle in Lake Martin.

That is awesome. Are there documented cases of mountain lions in Kentucky?

Yeah they're out the. Saw it at Mammoth Caves. We came off a trail into the parking area and it walked out with us about 40-50 yards away. Thought it was a deer at first until I saw that long tail...nearly shat myself.
