From a ford technician: This noise is caused by the relationship of the engine cylinder block, crankshaft journal, bearing inserts and the oil film. This relationship may allow a vibration that resonates through the cylinder block and is heard as a metallic ticking noise. The noise can be described as an irregular ticking or clacking sound, like random typing on a mechanic typewriter. This condition has been present in diesel engines produced for the last 20 or more years. The overall noise reduction in engines produced today makes this noise appear new when in fact it was masked by other noises in the past...... this is what a failed injector sounds like
I have read this before and I bet this is what ford will tell me it is when I bring it in soon to get the oil changed. I’m not going to stop until I get it figured out for sure

hat engine really isn't that hard on oil. But over time the wrong oil will sheer down in a diesel and not lubricate as well.
I'd spend the money a little early and swap it out then go from there. It is likely just a stuck lifter.
Another thing to look for depending on sound is an exhaust manifold leak. It will also make an annoying tap/tick sound.
This make sense and I’ll check into it and mention it to the Dealership when I take it
Thanks for the Info

Yep. That's also a likely suspect.

Knock, Knock, goes the diesel.
Seriously sounds like injector pump driving on the gear to build pressure since it levels off at cruise. Could be internal, but i good diesel engine doesn't sound like a Chevy Impala.

I have the year same truck and engine combo. Mine has a slight tick also but I think it’s only noticeable because it’s so quiet. I change the oil myself every 5-7k with 5w40 synthetic. Both fuel filters are changed every other oil change.
My 07 6.0 had a tick and it sounded like a cash register.

Does the tick get louder when you accelerate?
Posted on 12/22/19 at 9:17 pm to WHS
like an Ibm electric or like a mechanical underwood

It doesn’t get louder . It’s almost not even noticeable.

Yea mine most definitely gets louder with acceleration and it’s all I can hear. I added some diesel kleen to help clean the injectors to see if that helps before I bring it to the dealership. A good friend of mine who is a diesel mechanic said from the video I sent him it sounded like an exhaust leak. I just hope my extended warranty covers it.
