My wife and I did the same but think ours took 15 days. Others that took the class when we did submitted by mail and ranged from 3-4 months. In person at State Police HQ is the way to go.

Jefferson County Alabama now has an online process. The renewals are done in a week and new licenses usually take a week after the background check at maybe 2 weeks max.
One used to be able to walk up to the pistol permit counter at the courthouse, fill in a form, hand it to the employee, and get the permit handed to you within 5 minutes. I liked the old process. I get mine Renewed every 5 years.

I did my application online. Went to State Police HQ the day after I got my email confirmation that they received the app. They took my picture (I think? Or maybe they use the one off your driver's license?) and did my fingerprints electronically at HQ.

The address I have for the Concealed Carry office is 7919 Independence. That's the LSP headquarters building. When I get there, where do I go? Is it in the main buikding? Parking? Best time to go to avoid lines and waiting?

There was only one main building. This should be difficult. I was able to park right near the front door, but maybe I was lucky.

When you enter the front door they will have someone there asking you why you're there (at least they did when I entered). I was seated right to the right until it was my turn to speak to someone who reviews your application. If your application is complete she'll send you to the another person to pay for the fingerprint scans and then you'll go through magnetically locked doors to do the printing. Then you're out. Don't forget your mask.

I live 4 hours away from Lexington so I wouldn’t know about GC. I would ask Bud’s Gun Shop for that.

I did some research on the transfer. You have to take the class. We have a training course that has to be completed as part of the CCDW requirement. Like I said in another post, your Alabama permit is good until it expires. If you don’t want to take the class to get a KY CCDW, it’s not required cause we have constitutional carry now.

Go whenever you want. There won't be long lines. It ain't the DMV.

When you turn onto the main drive off of Independence Blvd., the building you want is the building directly in front of you. The other public safety agencies are in the same complex, but LSP Headquarters is the main attraction right at the end of the main road. The last time I went, you kind of had to take a detour off the main road to a horseshoe driveway off to the left so a trooper can take your temperature and give you a wristband that gets you access to the entire public safety complex. So, don't have a fever and make sure you bring a mask.

After you get your temperature bracelet, they'll direct you back onto the main road. When the main road gets to an end, you'll see a monument directly ahead of you and LSP Headquarters behind that. It'll be hard to miss. It says "Louisiana State Police" in big letters over the main entrance.

Where the main road ends, it intersects another curved road that kinda wraps around headquarters. Pick a direction. Either way eventually will get you to an entrance to the parking lot in front of the building. If it's full, there is PLENTY of parking in two large lots on either side. I have never had any problem finding parking in the lot right in front of the building, though. It's an administrative building, so it's not a high-traffic area for the general public.

When you walk in the front door of the building, there's gonna be someone there to make sure you're wearing a mask and to make sure you need to be in that building. Tell them why you're there and they should set you up. If there isn't anyone there, though, the fingerprint unit is immediately to your right. You'll see the counter the instant you walk in. Read all the signs when you walk in. When I went, there was one window you had to go to just for CHP applications so they could check that you had everything in the system they required to be able to accept the fingerprints. Then they send you over to the lady who will take payment and get you signed in so they can actually take the fingerprints. There may be a couple of people ahead of you, but it moves fast.

When you're in the office where they actually scan your fingerprints, ask them to print you out some extra FD-258 cards. I walked out with ten sets of fingerprint cards that I stashed in my "fun gun folder" to have on hand when I want to build or buy something the feds have deemed naughty.

That should be it. If the DPS cafeteria was still open to the public, I'd say you should go get printed on whichever day they are serving fried chicken. I think it's Wednesday. No joke. It's pretty damned good.
