CMP M14 Rifle news

I watched an interview with the CMP CEO who stated they will have well over 100,000 rifles for sale and the price will be less than 2k each.
He expects sales to start in January 2027 and I believe he said they will start with two rifles per year maximum per customer. Great news all around. I plan on picking one up.

Yeah, this is really cool. I'm on the fence as a guy who loves historic firearms. My CMP Garands are both on WWII receivers, which adds some really neat historical provenance. Not sure the M14 has the same thing going for it, especially given its short run as primary infantry arm.
I'm sure they'll sell like hotcakes, though. The surplus market has been dry for a while.

They have some requirements you have to meet to be able to buy from them.
To buy a firearm from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), you must be a U.S. citizen, meet age requirements (18+ for rifles, 21+ in some states), belong to a CMP-affiliated club, show marksmanship or firearms-training activity, and be legally eligible to own a gun.

Membership in a CMP-Affiliated Organization
This requirement cannot be waived.
Acceptable affiliations include:
CMP-affiliated shooting clubs
Congressionally chartered veterans’ organizations (VFW, American Legion, DAV, etc.)
U.S. military (active, reserve, guard, retirees)
Law-enforcement organizations (FOP, NAPO, etc.)
NRA membership does NOT qualify.
Civilian Marksmanship Program
Marksmanship or Firearms-Related Activity
You must show familiarity with safe firearm handling. Accepted proof includes:
Military or law-enforcement service
Participation in shooting competitions
Completion of a marksmanship clinic
Concealed carry license
Hunter safety course with live fire
Range officer certification of shooting activity
This requirement is waived for:
Individuals age 60+ (rifle purchases)
Military, veterans, law enforcement
Some junior-shooter guardian purchases

A Louisiana Shooting Association membership will qualify you for purchase.

So what is going to be the sought after manufacturer? Springfield Armory, Winchester, Harrington and Richardson or Thompson-Ramo Wooldridge (TRW)?
I assume Springfield because of the rarity.

Also wonde rif there's going to be any m21s or McMillan stocked rifles as well.

You have to be a member of a club affiliated with CMP. However, over 60 people do not need to provide proof of marksmanship.

Those rifles will be available for auction on Gunbroker. CMP has become a “business for profit” over the last 5 - 10 years. They cherry pick the rarest and highest quality firearms and list them on GB. They usually end up in collectors hands to the person with the most money.
Prior to CMP selling on GB, you could pick up an M1 Garand in very good condition for $800-$1500 through the CMP. These same rifles now sell for $2-$3K by bidders on the Inet.

The days that you could get one with a brand new barrel and stock for $700 were awesome. Wish I had gotten a dozen of them. The days of cheap surplus firearms are likely long behind us.
I probably wont buy one of these at this price point just because kids, but it is awesome that they'll be available. I assumed like im sure many did that we weren't getting anything more modern than the M1 on the surplus market, ever. Lets see some M16A1 uppers next!
