Hah, been there too. Got to my stand with only 3 pins. Used the metal hook on the end of one of the bungee cords I used to hold the stand together while walking. Dicey situation to say the least.

I have never successfully done that. I've tried hard, but my abs just can't deal. I adjust the top a lot.

When I was young I would go 30-35 ft on the edge of a cutover.

Loved it

Too old and fat now

Always wear a harness. Ladder or climber. I had a shooting rail collapse on me this year on a ladder I wasn't familiar with. Harness saved my arse.

And get one of these and use it, , climbing and decending too, and you'll get comfy with it.

Everyone needs these in my opinion. You'll loose circulation in a harness before you get "saved". This thing will get you to the ground. Well worth it.

Spider fall arrest system

I'm 6'2" 285 ps and almost only bow hunt so I'm always climbing. I use the fat arse summit (Titan?) I wish it where more open but I gotta sacrifice that for the weight capacity I'm confortable with. Won't do a lock on with my size

Go get a tree walker and never look back. You can climb a telephone pole covered with crisco with one and never even think about slipping.

How do you almost die 3 times when you are only 8 feet of the ground?

Maybe it's just the pic, but it still looks low and easily spottable. Not trying to be a dick, just saying. Maybe a few more ladder pieces?

Appreciated. I'm gonna get another piece, bump it up and find a better tree for this weekend. Just wanted a clean tree to practice on tonight.

I think there are more falls when transitioning from a ladder to a "lock on" than there are climbing stand accidents. Be careful when making the move.

FRICK CLIMBERS IN THE POOCHY.

Seriously those things are a death trap.

Last time I was in one I got stranded in a tree hanging and had to jump down.
I left the fricking thing on the tree, woods can have it.
I told the good lord my Climbing days are over.

The only time I've ever felt truly unsafe was stepping on to a lock on from climbing sticks. I also took a lock on down a couple weeks ago and the tree had stretched out the strap to the point it looked like it could have broken any day. It's too easy to leave them up too long, and I would never hunt in one someone else hung. Every year someone steps out onto a lock on platform and the strap fails because the tree stretched it out. Those things scare me 10 times worse than a climber.

Agreed. Climbing stands are very safe if you use them correctly on an appropriate tree. Most of these accidents are probably people who didnt leave a slight angle at the final height, tried to adjust the stand while in the tree, weren't wearing a harness, or modified their tree stand.

The tree lounge is the safest climber on the market! Can climb a steel pole and not slip!
