It's probably a stupid question but the only one we ever kept was my son's first deer and I just boiled it into oblivion. He got a 10 pt last day of the season that won't fit into a pot unless I break out the fish cooker. It's been sitting on an ant bed for 2 weeks, and they got the good stuff inside but the hide is still there. Is there an easy answer or do I just need to get a pot big enough to boil it in?

step 1 should be to take a knife and cut away all the hide and meat that you can as soon as you finish cleaning the deer

Pressure washing breaks off all the small bones in the nose. I wouldn’t.

Boiling and then wire brush is you best bet.

I believe OP said it's just a skull cap

It's just a cap. I may hang it off the dock just to see what the crabs will do, but it sounds like I'll end up boiling/wire brush.

Oops.

I have a skull thats been sitting in my backyard for about 2.5 months right now in the only tiny ant pile I could find. Not a whole lot left other than decaying hide at this point. I'm not in any rush, so I'm content to just let it sit there until just the bare skull is left.

You can pressure wash it but it’s still going to have to soak and soften up.

Put in a 5 gallon bucket of water. In about a month the hide will fall off.
Next time skin the head and the same method works quicker.

Careful. There are lots of critters that will eat the horns. Rodents and tree rodents in particular
