I went to a small gun show today and saw a Christensen Arms Mesa chambered in .300 mag. Is it a decent rifle?

Uhhhh, up to you. I would personally buy a tikka and sink the money saved into better glass just because I know how consistent Tikka is and I won't be losing anything by going tikka over christiansen. You might want the Mesa if you want something a little different though.

I’d think the fit & finish of the Mesa would be substantially better than your standard Tikka stainless/synthetic model. The Mesa will have a threaded barrel with the upgraded stock finish and Cerakote finish on the metal work if any of that matters to you, but it comes with an increased price. Honestly they’ll probably both shoot the same.

Ehhh, not really. Maybe the stock feels nicer but the fit and finish on the metal components really isn't. Tikka bolt is actually smoother than the christiansen from my handling experience.

I know the Tikka is the OB’s fave but I’m taking a Cerakoted finish of a “semi” custom rifle over a stainless mass production rifle (per my example).

ETA - I owned a Mesa & sold it. The build quality in the one I owned was superior to a mass-produced rifle.

That's fine. You can do that. It's really not better or nicer. I would rather save a few hundred and put it toward glass.

In what way? I've handled one before. Seemed like a nice rifle but not nearly worth asking price IMO

I’d counter both of those qualifiers are subjective to the individual. And just to show I’m not an argumentative a-hole I looked into the newer Tikka rifles (Cerakote, threaded barrel, upgraded stock materials, etc) that are comparable to the Mesa. They’re basically the same price with a MSRP of around $1200.

It's a great rifle. If you reload, you can get sub-1/2 MOA out of it.

Below is my 30 Nosler at 100 yds, 1/3"

The characteristics that drew me to the Mesa I owned were as follows: slimmer forearm (as a right-handed shooter I liked the feel in my left hand of the thinner profile in that area of the stock); the texture of the raised, drizzled paint on the stock gave additional grip; the overall weight of the rifle; & finally, the quality of the metalwork (specifically the lack of a “seam” in the muzzle area where the threaded barrel was capped).

I sold my Mesa to a friend. After the break in period, I’m pretty sure that one shots half inch groups with factory ammo.

If you want to keep the setup MAGA as possible, it needs a Leupold.

Not true. Vortex AMG is the only scope that is made completely in America with American components. Everything but the reticle is made here. Leupold uses glass and components from other places but is assembled here. They even have chinese components in a bunch of their scopes.

Glass is made in Japan is what I’ve read.

The nightforce ATACR is Japanese glass but everything else is manufactured and assembled in the US.
