Charter captain recommendations around Delacroix?
Posted by 2drunk2care on 10/26/16 at 9:20 am10
I usually fish the Venice area personally and with guides but I have clients coming in and they are requesting to fish the Delacroix area. Looking for specs and reds and will need lodging.

Sweetwater. Capt. Jack. Great accommodations and best guide down there.

Side note: I would not recommend letting his guy clean your fish.

quote:As have I.
I've seen a bunch of fish cleaners do that.
quote:This is where we part ways. When you pay X DOLLARS per fish, there better be nothing left on dem bones. I can almost understand trout, especially smaller trout, but I give no quarter on redfish.
Can't say i blame them though.
I use Capt Russo's method for the most part.

i cut my own no matter what but those fish cleaning guys really hate their jobs. Inshore. Now offshore, you bet those guys are very skilled and get the most off those big fish.

Charlie Thomason. He's in hopedale but he'll spend plenty of time in Delacroix. every time I see him pass in the new blackjack, I want to book a trip just to fish out of it

I used to be a deck hand and didn't make a whole lot of money. When we cleaned fish there was always a little extra on the bone.
All the near by deck hands would pool the catchs and we would bring home enough for supper even the ones who didn't have a trip that day.

Cpt Charlie at Bayou Charters hands down.
We fished Bayou charters a week ago today. Went with Capt. Joe Hinton. We limited on reds(4 man) and caught another 30 or so at 15"". Great trip
Those guys know what they are doing.
Jack Payne at Sweetwater in Delacroix is great too. We went on a trip with him a year or 2 ago and limited on nice trout. Jack will entertain you.

Nice catch. But this is why I don't let other people clean my fish. Dumping them on that nasty arse floor for the obligatory photo op coats them in underfoot grime, old fish guts, and pelican shite shortly before you pass the knife through all that muck that just coated your fish along with the fish's own natural nasty exterior on through to the tender white meat below.
