Crawfish and bluegill/sunfish. You may be better off just running trotlines if you’re trying to fill a icebox. Interchange bluegill with crawfish and profit. Less aggravation than a jug line IMO. Find some deep pools next to some downed trees/stumps.

Goldfish are the GOAT but illegal to use in LA.
I’d like to see a link with that law.

I ran some noodles with a few guys from my deer camp, and they’ve done this for a long time, and they used deer livers. They get everyone’s deer livers in camp when they gut them, cut them up and freeze them during deer season. When they are ready to go noodling, they just thaw them out and put bite size chunks on their lines. I’ve ran the noodles with them, and they do use circle hooks, and 2-3 hooks per noodle. Deer liver stays on the hook, it just doesn’t come off, it’s deadly.

I know of at least a half dozen local bait shops that sell live goldfish right out in the wide open. If it’s illegal there are some really shitty goldfish cops around here.

This right hrrr. Great episode too. Ol boy he fishes with uses chicken with garlic powder if I remember right, he basically says sure there are probably better baits like shad but this is the easiest/ cheapest thing that works. He says I can go to the store the day of fishing and fish in an hour when the other guys are spending time catching bait or what have you. If you throw out 50-100 jugs you don't have to have the absolute best.
