Neighborhood pond. I'm noticing more and more gar. What's the most effective way of catching and removing these fish?

Did a flood bring them there or is there a large culvert/drain to the pond. You might just be screwed.

zara spook or mirrolure paused right on top of their head.

A few in the pond isn't unhealthy for the ecosystem though. They aren't eating any more small fish than a bass or catfish does

Any top water with treble hooks. Park it on their nose and set the hell out of the hook.

Look up rope lures for gar. They're very effective. Jug lines too will catch them.

But as mentioned, they likely aren't hurting your other fish. They're a natural part of the ecosystem and rarely have a substantial impact.

I've only landed a couple with just regular mono line since they have so many teeth they usually cut the line. You'll up your chances using a steel leader with a treble hook since their mouths are so bony if using a rod and reel.

Wire/rigid hoop net. The gar will drown in it if completely submerged as they can’t get to the surface to breathe.

Or a small top water if they like to sit at the surface and you can sightcast them. If you are into fly fishing, crimp a very small treble hook onto a foam fly and put it right next to their mouth - not in front. May have to use heavy braid as a leader. Good luck. Little spotted gar like to jump and throw hooks.

This is interesting. Can you re-word that sentence?

I've read you can comb white nylon rope out and catch gar with it, make a lure out of it. The rope fibers get tangled in their teeth.
