I was instructed to come here to ask about his background.

I,m sure I'll get the same reception as the OT.

Yet, I'd still like to know why he is considered an authority on firearms.

That seems apparent....but in what capacity?

ETA: I don't have a beef with him so it isn't about that.

John Browning was a firearms designer and engineer. I believe Carson is a salesman. It's like saying the salesman at the local car lot is like Henry Ford.

Well it's like that car salesman that was spoke of earlier, you have one that just wants to make his paycheck and doesn't know or care about the details.

In my opinion, Carson has educated himself on the details whether you're talking about the function of a particular gun or the process to become a legal and responsible gun owner. A sign of someone who is measured on a certain topic is when you hear them say "I'm not sure but we will definitely find out".
This in itself let's me know I'm not dealing with a know it all that is making shite up as we go. I would invite you to start in a conversation around here then check the facts. I think you will easily figure out that we have both kinds on this board but the knowledgeable far out number the tacticool internet operators.

IMHO, Carson falls into the category of a responsible firearm steward.

His taste in movies calls into question his opinions and statements on all other topics.

A salesman is a salesman is salesman and what they have for sale is always the best in their eyes because they will undoubtedly have a biased opinion. If I want advice on the quality of something, I'd be more inclined to ask the one who fixes the stuff daily and sees first hand the strengths and weaknesses; someone like a mechanic, appliance repair man, computer technician or gunsmith.

Most quality guns don't fail often enough for this logic to work. Those that do, don't go to your neighborhood gunsmith for repair. They go back to the manufacturer because a quality firearm is typically backed with a lifetime, or at least a lengthy, warranty.

Can't say that I completely disagree. I was talking more about the mindset of responsibility as a salesman.

Ever had a car salesman run a DMV check on you and then deny the sale? All I'm saying is that Carson gets my vote on being a responsible steward when it comes to firearms.

That's absurd. Most gunsmiths do it as a passion and tend to find ways to improve on guns, even quality ones. Also, most firearm owners will not go through the hassle of returning a gun after owning it several years if they can have a local gunsmith in the area reapair it. I suggest you talk to some gunsmiths when you have the chance.

I don't disagree with you on this. He does seem like a responsible salesman in that aspect.

OP, I worked in Purchasing at Bowie Outfitters. I still help out over there during busy season or when I'm bored (love jumping on the counter to sell). I'm hardly an authority on anything, but I know a thing or two. I mostly just shoot a lot now and am very active in the local training/shooting communities.
