Yes.
Don't stop many cars anymore. I'm a detective in an unmarked now.
Not many, but I remember everyone of the times. Things were said and thankfully only feelings were hurt.

Lol I thought this was common sense. How many idiots have you pulled over that grab their gun to show you?

Technically speaking, no. It is probably in your material best interest to disclose if he or she ask if you have a weapon, but that question is just standard operating procedure related to officer safety. You won't find a statute that mentions a duty to disclose.

Well, if you're in Alabama, your CCP is held at the pleasure of your respective counties Sheriff...so, if he wanted to be a dick and yank yours for not disclosing, he probably could.
Here's a snippet from the applicable statute.
Section 13A-11-75(a)
quote:
The sheriff of a county, upon the application of any person residing in that county, may issue a qualified or unlimited license to such person to carry a pistol in a vehicle or concealed on or about his or her person within this state for not more than one year from date of issue, if it appears that the applicant has good reason to fear injury to his or her person or property or has any other proper reason for carrying a pistol, and that he or she is a suitable person to be so licensed. The license shall be in triplicate, in form to be prescribed by the Secretary of State, and shall bear the name, address, description, and signature of the licensee and the reason given for desiring a license. The original thereof shall be delivered to the licensee, the duplicate shall, within seven days, be sent by registered or certified mail to the Director of Public Safety, and the triplicate shall be preserved for six years by the authority issuing the same. The fee for issuing such license shall be one dollar ($1) which shall be paid into the county treasury unless otherwise provided by local law. Prior to issuance of a license, the sheriff shall contact available local, state, and federal criminal history data banks to determine whether possession of a firearm by an applicant would be a violation of state or federal law. The sheriff may revoke a license upon proof that the licensee is not a proper person to be licensed.

There are differing opinions out there as to how to whether or not to disclose a concealed firearm to LEO during routine traffic stop, if doing so is NOT required by the state. Obviously we must inform if required. I've decided that regardless of what state I'm in, I will inform the LEO by showing him my cc license along w/ my driver's license. I'm more comfortable doing that and not having to keep straight which states require which one to inform or not inform. The only time I was stopped by a LEO while cc it was no big deal to him. Of course, since it was LA, I was required to inform him. This topic usually generates a lot of controversy. The main thing is that one is lawful and comfortable w/ how one handles it.

If you have a concealed carry permit, both states have reciprocal arrangements. All states in the Southeast have reciprocals except one state and that slips my mind now. Call any gun shop and ask and they can tell you in an instant. And.....

Alabama is kind of strange in that the cc permit states that it only allows you to carry a firearm conceald but not in the open. But Alabama is a open carry state so you do not need a permit to carry a pistol on your hip. Watch some of the videos on YouTube about open carry. A lot of law enforcement do not know the laws on open carry. You can walk around with a gun on your hip but you cannot get in your vehicle with it without a permit.

Good on you for pointing this out. Seems to confuse most people that ask about this issue in AL.

Sounds like a PIA when you go hunting to me if you have to leave the gun in the back or fool with a locking case. I would hate that law.

Honestly, I can't think of one thing that's a pain in the arse when it relates to firearms in Alabama. Never had to leave my house to get my permit.
I've always wondered what you do in the classes for the states that require them? Is it similar to the NRA Basics class? Is there a qualifying procedure?

Some issuing agencies in AL offer carry classes that go over the laws of when deadly force is warranted, what to do if you have to use deadly force, basic firearms and range safety, ect.

unlike La. where it seems you have to jump through hoops.
Those hoops should exist in every state IMHO.

Dont know, I dont need one to throw my gun on the seat and go hunting, or drive around with my gun in the door of my truck. I dont pack on me so I have not reason to get a CCP.
I see your point though, being its so easy to get one everyone that hunts can get one and not need to lock it up in your truck.
But if they hand them out like candy, why even have them?
