Well, in Alabama, a concealed carry permit is issued by the individual county sheriff. A background check (that is laughably short) and $10-$20 (depending on the county) gets you a permit. No classes and no waiting period. With the permit you can carry on your persons or in a vehicle. So, it is a no-brainer to get the permit..unlike La. where it seems you have to jump through hoops.

This. I applied and got my CC permit before I even bought a handgun. Which I think helped in my first purchase of a handgun because most of the time you get a 3 day waiting period on your first purchase for a more thorough background check but with mine I think that since I already had the permit and they knew that there was a recent check because of that I was able to walk out with my pistol.

I always shake my head at folks who get charged with carry a firearm without a permit. It is so fricking easy to get a CCP, you should be hung on the courthouse square for being dumb and not getting one. You know, Darwinism and whatnot.

It is ridiculously simple her in AL to get a CC permit.

In my county its a 10 minute ordeal and walk out with it in hand. - yearly renewal is done through the mail similair to a car tag.

No. We dont need one to carry in our vehicle and it never crossed my mind crossing state lines. Hell I drove to Florida the same way 3 weeks ago.

I have no desire to conceal a weapon and thats all its good for in La as I understand it.

Alabama is the one that is strict. If you don't have a CCP, then do not carry a handgun in your vehicle there.

Thanks everyone, this is the answer I was looking for. Guess I won't bring it. Been planning on getting my CCP real soon though. Need to get that done.

So if I get a CCP from La, I can carry in my truck AND carry concealed on person in Alabama? Or I can only carry in my truck in Alabama with a La CCP and no CC on person?

This would be correct. Alabama considers a handgun in a vehicle as being concealed, therefore you must have a permit to conceal in a vehicle or on a person.

Another good reason to get a permit is you might get stopped by someone like me. When I walk up to your car keep your hands on the wheel and TELL NOT SHOW ME that there is a weapon on you or in the car. I will ask for the usual license, insurance, registration, and then I will ask for your CCP. As long as you are sober, not a jackass, and didn't do something just completely brain dead to get stopped in the first place you get no paper over a warning. As part of this deal, if you see someone kicking my arse on your way back to LA, you stop and shoot the bastard for me. Deal?

Lol I thought this was common sense. How many idiots have you pulled over that grab their gun to show you?

If I had a CCP and was packing, I would just hand it to you with my license and registration so you would know what's going on.
