Academy has both of these safes in their current sale paper. the Cannon Scout (made by cannon for academy) is 14 gun 1200deg for $379 and the Sentry is 14 gun no fire protection for $289. Just wondering if the Cannon is that much better for the $100 more. Anyone familiar with either of these? I plan on picking up two of them this week while they are on sale.

that is a nice one chad. I have been kicking around the idea of buying two smaller ones vs one large safe. Since I don't have them in a safe now anything is more secure than where they are at the moment. For some reason it is hard to drop $$$ on a safe even though one of the rifles going in there costs more than the safe Whatever I get I would like it to have an electrical outlet so I can plug in a dehumidifier rod vs having to use a bucket of damp rid that I will most probably forget to change on a regular basis.

$749 is a pretty good price for that one and i think there's a $20 off promo going on you can prolly subtract more. It's a great safe for that $ but i'm with you, i don't want to spend any damn money on a safe.

Does the Cannon come with a guarantee in case of fire and there is damage to the guns? I think that $379 for the 30 min/1200 degree safe is a much better deal for the $90. You would lose a hundred fold the cost difference in the event of a fire.

It is amazing how things change. I grew up with a glass front gun cabinet in my bedroom and my grandfather had built glass front gun cabinets on each side of his fire place.

"A Genuine Cannon Lifetime Policy ** will provide hassle free 100% NO COST repair or replacement after a Burglary, Fire, or Natural Flood emergency." This is taken from the Cannon website but I am not sure if it also applies to the Scout line they build for Academy.

Pretty sure it only covers the safe and not the contents.

I would suggest purchasing a safe from the "oops" thread on Bayou Shooter from Richie's in picayune for $479. Here is a link to the thread. LINK Great deal and we know 504 loves a good deal. It is the same one which was posted above I think.

I bought a scratch and dent Cannon about three weeks ago from them and love it. It has the outlet on the inside and I can't find a scratch on it. They will deliver it too.

Damn that is a cheap price on that one. How much does it weigh? Not wanting to get anything I have to have roided up gorillas to move.

Mine's about 450 lbs. I paid the delivery fee, saved on the sales tax and they brought it to my house in a box truck with a lift gate. They then brought it into my garage with a pallet jack.

I didn't have to do shnit! FWIW Delivery to Metairie ran $90 and sales tax would've been $35-40. No brainer

Did you have to bolt it to the floor?

Richie's is a lot more local than Cabela's. May not be in LA, but still...

It's actually still bolted to the pallet. It has the bolts and the holes to bolt it to anything though. We're considering moving, so I didn't want to put forth the trouble just yet. To anser your question....No I didn't HAVE TO both it down

Sounds good, I want one and where I would have to put it now would be a temporary location. Some of the safes that I looked at at a local store had a sign that the safe was topheavy with the door open and had to be bolted to the floor.

I am going to take a ride to academy after work and take a look at them. They have the Cannon like on bayou shooter listed for $599.99 so I am going to get them to open it up so I can take a look. If it isn't to big to put it where it needs to be in my house I might give that guy in Picayune a call. From the bayou shooter link it seems they had 5 left as of this morning.

Do you have Costco down there? I was just at our local one and they have a big Winchester with 30 minutes at 1400 fire protection for $849

I need one pretty bad. This one would hold close to thirty long guns.
