Can you get a golf cart that works as well as some ATVs for perusing 20 acres?

What are the strengths and weaknesses of each, and what kind of modifications might I need for the golf cart?

Mostly flat, but some small hills and holes.

My friend has 100 acres, that's mostly flat, and he has an old EZ-go gas powered golf cart that he lifted a little and put some off road tires on it. He built a motocross track for his son, with some pretty big hills on it for jumps and stuff. The golf cart will go anywhere on his place, including the track, it just doesn't jump very well. It also aint gonna go everywhere a 4 wheeler will go.

Have a stock old battery one I use offroad over 100ac. Does fine. Only problem is it doesn't like mud. Might change the tires to something that will bite that should fix that problem.

I think if it’s relatively flat like most of south Louisiana you might be able to make it work.

My only input would be we often hook a small trailer to the 4 wheeler or side by side to haul small stuff around. Could be deer blind materials or a bunch of limbs we trimmed to the burn pile. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t do that with a golf cart.

You will appreciate the benefits of gas carts in about 3-4 years

I have a gas club car lifted with some tires. I use it for everything I used my rancher for besides heavy mudding. Low end torque is its downfall vs a 4wheeler. Its easily pulled my 8' trailer loaded with cement bags. Use it as a light duty 2x4 and its perfect for riding around the property

I have a 91 Yamaha G2. 6 inch lift, back rack with heavy duty shocks, clutch kit for lower end torc. It’s a nice cart for light duty roads. It’s not fun to drive if there are a lot of dips or pot holes in road. Doesn’t absorb shock well at all. Have thought about replacing front shocks but got tired of sinking money into it.

20 acres no problem. I use one at my house 4 acers and deer lease 250 acers or so. Mine is lifted and has off-road tires the fold down seat serves as a cargo bed. Here’s some pluses and negative.

Nice to not have to start each time you want to move it just jump on and hit the pedal.
Nice to be able to not run out of gas but sometimes when it needs a charge I wish I could just add gas. Although I have hunted on it for two days with no charge so it should not be an issue on your property.
Batteries are expensive 600-1000k every 3-7 years plan on that.
Bad fuel from ethanol sitting up is not an issue.

They will not handle the mud that a sxs will.
They will not tow what a sxs will.

Mine is a club car an they have the most parts and seen the be the easier to work on from what I have seen.
That’s all I got!!
