I'm in the market for a new vehicle as mine is getting to be a headache.

I've been using autotrader and looking at different models. I noticed the prices are a good bit lower in Texas(i live in La) Can only assume that it's demand? Idk.

How does it work with paying taxes for vehicle? Pros and cons to buying in texas? I don't mind driving to Houston area to save a few thousand.

Taxes on auto purchases are based on the tax rate the vehicle will be garaged, not from where it is purchased.

Bought my last truck from west virgina and had it delivered. Dealership was familiar with the process and handled everything, for a fee of course

I've bought two vehicles from Texas dealers. If I recall, they looked up my local sales tax rate, collected it from me, then handled the registration/taxes with LA OMV. I got a plate in the mail.

Just ask the dealers, and they'll explain their process. They sell to LA folks all the time.

I bought a used truck in TX a few years back. I went in and did all the paperwork and paid for the truck, no taxes. They put a TX temp plate on it that was specific to nonresidents if I remember right. About a week later they FedEx me the title and I went to the local DMV and paid taxes and got my actual LA plate
