Ok, I was just trying to give you an idea on determining if the attic would be suitable for gun storage. You could get some of the radiant foil bubble rolls found at HD or lowes to help with insulating the area for the safe. Or build it in-between wall studs in a closet, like others have mentioned. Good luck

This is my closet. Alarm system to the left and exterior wall to the right. Bathroom directly through that wall.
This is my wall. It is just a random one in my house
Can you really fit them in between stud walls? I think the studs are a true 2x4,and it just seems like they would fall over in there. Do I need to figure out some way to hold them in there?

What if you made a fake wall on one side of the closet? Put the guns behind that. How many guns?

Interdasting
I guess it could spare a couple of inches behind the clothes. Should get me to a depth of maybe 6 or 7".
If I had any guns
it would be around 5-7 long guns and maybe a pistol or two.

If you put in a wall, make sure it is a true interior wall.
Exterior walls have much more temp variation.

Did you just suggest he put hinges on a piece of cut out sheetrock?

If sheetrock no but my grandparents and my parents houses have wood on the inside of their closets.

It is asbestos. That shite is plenty strong
Posted on 2/19/13 at 8:41 pm to Hammertime
No one uses asbestos any more and you should not cut it either.

House was built in 1942. There is asbestos on everything except where the sheet rock was patched
Posted on 2/19/13 at 9:18 pm to Hammertime
In that case leave that shite alone and just build a fake wall/ closet

May have found a way for you to pay for a real gun safe.

10 years ago before asbestos, lead paint, and mold were bad for you, I built up my immunities over a few years. Doesn't affect me anymore
I am trying the same thing with cigarettes now.

I wouldn't worry about long term storage if I were you

Maybe hire Flair to help you

Funny thing is, the more I was around each of those, the less the effects became. I guess that was the mesothelioma delusions kicking in
My buddy that was gonna help me is an environmental consultant who specializes in all three of those areas.
Putting it on an interior wall is gonna be hard. I think I only have 2 that could be considered interior walls and are usable

I have a friend that puts his gun in the attic, he has been doing this for 10 years and haven't had a problem. I was thinking about doing the same thing.

Yeah, mine have been up there, just in their cases. Haven't had any problems with that set up yet, but having them in the open air seems to be what everyone is eluding to
