I have been doing skull mounts for my family/close friends only for years using my old turkey fry pot and propane. usually 4 hours on simmer and pressure wash.

I'm asking if anyone has ever used the "buck boiler" or any electric heating element style before with good results?

Advantages I feel you could "set it and forget it" easier and not babysit the flame, "cook" it overnight, or even let it simmer one day while Im at work, without worrying about leaving an open flame, etc...

never used it. you have the formula.... 4 hours and pressure wash. No need to buy some gimmick.

Yeah you can pretty much “set it and forget it”, but you do have to add water every so often because it will boil the water out. Easier than babysitting a burner, but still requires some attention.

Just buy an aquarium heater. You can get them cheap off Amazon. It won't get as hit as a buck boiler, but it does the job just fine. Might take a little longer, though, as you would be using Maceration.

Flat back feed bucket from tractor supply, 1500w water heater element, held in with a 1" conduit nut on the inside. Cut the female end off a 10' extension cord and wire her up.

Instead of a thermostat, I just plug it into this cheap programmable timer to cycle the element on and off.

It works. Requires less attention.

That's what I did for a while, minus the regulator. Just wired it up to an extension chord.

Problem with buck boil is it sits on nose and cooks it too much and breaks. Would need to modify it a little so the nose is not sitting on bottom of bucket

Something that simple would work, but I find the bucket to be pretty small. I had a small skull and barely fit. The water boils out and the top of the skull was out the bucket.
