These things been in the Basin for years. Never turned out to be the killers that the movies portrayed and not much worth eating.

Old man that was a neighbor twenty years ago used to go fish in Bayou St John several times a week. One day he caught one and notified the LWFD and the biologist he talked to said that was impossible. He met the field biologist for the NOLA area and the biologist examined the fish and said that it was a piranha.
