Bow Hunt or Rifle Hunt Elk

My brother and I are talking to a guide in Montana about hunting elk. We were wanting to do a gun hunt but he is booked for 2018 season and only has 2 archery spots left. He said his archery hunts are a lot more fun, you see a lot more elk and says that if his hunter is in shape, they can get plenty of opportunities. I’d love to hear the bulls bugle and have them called in but since I’ve never killed an elk, I’m leaning more towards a rifle hunt somewhere else.
For those who have hunted elk with bows or bow and rifle, what are the pro’s and cons? What do you recommend?
Thanks

In Oregon, the bulls are no longer hunting for trim during rifle season so you have more action during bow season. That said, lots of people get skunked with a bow every year.

I'm making my first elk hunt next year in Montana thanks to a fellow OB member. We will be packing our rifles.

Depends on area. Better archery hunts in New Mexico.
Rifle in Montana is great if lots of snow. Rifle hunts are migration dependent. Do not go early

Bow hunting elk is awesome if you are in an area with elk, hearing them bugle and trying to get within bow range is incredibly exciting. Having said that your chances of a kill are greatly reduced

<15% chance you get a bow kill
Go rifle if you want a decent chance at a kill

IF you are using a guide. Then I would definitely do an archery hunt.
Like stated earlier, you hunt the rut with a ton more excitement during archery season.
Did a public land hunt a couple years back during archery season and that was just too much of a learning curve. You need someone to put you on the elk so you're not wasting time trying to find the elk.
I headed to Montana at the end of the month for a gun hunt. Figure I will get one under my belt and then get serious about an archery hunt in my future.
