Boat - Trimming down on throttle acting up

Trimming down on the throttle handle is acting up. Sometimes works on first try and sometimes takes 8-10 presses before it catches. Up is fine and down/up on the motor switch is fine.
Wanted to see if anyone is familiar with this sort of issue.
Thank you.

down/up on the motor directly is fine
Being as you tested the motor in both directions I would venture to say either the switch contact is bad, the down relay is bad, or a bad wire. More than likely the relay is bad and not pulling the contact all the way in.
I would test the relay and switch first.

Check trim switch wires underneath binnicle, either frayed or loose.

Just happened on my Suzuki. Delay going up. Both switches though. If it's just one switch and not the one on the motor also I would replace the switch. If you can replicate with the switch on the motor then Change the relay.

Didn't say what kind of motor you have. I had an older Mercury do that. The trim switch on the engine went bad and I couldn't trim it consistently. See if that is the problem.

If you have a “up” relay and a “down” relay, try swapping them (change places) and see if the problem moves. If so, replace the bad relay.

Either a relay or trim solenoid most likely. Relay being more common.

Just an FYI for Yamaha's, not that it will help.
Their common wire colors used between trim switch to outboard is Solid light blue, and solid light green.
Easy way to remember it is:
Trim Up-Blue as in sky
Trim Down-Green as in grass
ETA.
I've used this website for years when it comes to boats and more specifically Older outboards and wire trouble shooting.
